Ok, so I read the theory board a lot and unless I missed it, I have not seen anyone mention this theory. It is not fully evolved but that is what the comment section is for.
I have been asking myself why would Richard want Paul's body after he was shot? It can not simply be an eye for an eye because Sawyer shot two hostiles. Plus it seems sketchy that Paul and Amy would be on the hostiles turf just enjoying a picnic. Paul strikes me as having some deeper connection to the island's past than the rest of the DI. The necklace Amy pulled off him before releasing his body was an ankh, an egyptian symbol of eternal life and occasionally a stand alone symbol for "soul". So when Amy removed the necklace from his body it was both showing that his soul was removed as well as indicating his soul would live on forever as it was lifted above his corpse. Please correct me if I am wrong but I have not noticed many egyptian symbols within the DI, only when the Others take over the barracks in the future. This does not include the Swan clock as it has not yet been built in 1977. Also the mystery statue was holding two ankhs in its hands. That statue ob! viously predates Dharma.
So Richard says Ben will not remember any of it, which is possible but he could be filled in later by any of the hostiles or DI or the 815 survivors. But what memories does he have? He still maintains a desire to be with Richard's people and a disdain for the DI but what is it based on?
When Ben was driving Lockes body around in the van off island it featured an anagram for Reincarnation. I assumed Locke would be reincarnated but he was not. He was resurrected and there is a huge difference. Locke resumes his life with his soul and his memories. I think the anagram was referring to Bens past. I believe that Richard has reincarnated Paul into young Ben's body. That is why Ben instantly lost his innocence, not because he is turned instantly evil but because his mind is now that of a full grown man who long ago became an adult and lost his innocence.
So this is my theory: PaulBen is born with the last memory being that he was shot by a hostile with his wife (i think they were married) having a bag put over her head. Now he wakes up trapped in a young boys body. He finds out his wife has married his friend and had a baby. So PaulBen is pissed and wants to destroy Horace and everything he is responsible for. He will forever have a disdain for Ethan, the son he never had. That is why when 815 crashes PaulBen sends two people on suicide missions. One is Goodwin who is doin the badabing with Juliet and the other is Ethan the fruit of his ex wife and ex friends love.
Also, Ethan is the Others surgeon and if PaulBen has knowledge of the events that unfold in 2004, when he sees the plane crash he knows Jack Shephard is on it so he no longer needs Ethan. Though he makes a dramatic speech to Jack along the lines of "i found out i had a tumor and then suddenly a surgeon falls out of the sky" to make Jack feel special. But if he didnt hold contempt for Ethan he could have had the surgery done without all the scheming of kidnapping Jack and Sawyer and Kate. Of course Jack does not find out until much later that Ethan was a surgeon but by then Ethan is dead and Jack is the only option to do the surgery.
As a side note, I think we will see PaulBen be unconcious until he returns to his hospital bed in Dharmaville. The first person he will see is Juliet and having no memory of how his life was saved thinks it was this beautiful woman who saved his life and treats him special almost as if she has known him for many years. His mind is an adult and realises he can not win Juliet over....until the future when he is full grown and recruits her to the island.
So not fully developed but please respond with commetns. Could this be true??? Theory by Weaverlicious
