I know many were asking why does Ethan have a different last name, and I wondered too why he seems more evil in the future.
After watching Whatever Happened Happened I think I know why. Ethan is the face of the Dharma children taken after The Purge. They were all taken to the same place Ben was (presumably The Temple) and their memories were erased as well as their innocence was taken. Ethan is given a new last name to represent his new life as an Other.
Why ben's last name didn't change is cause they needed him to reinfiltrate Dharma.
I theorize that Ben's father will be hugely changed after Ben returns, kinder and such, but the irony will be that Ben just doesn't care. He will kill them all anyways. Because he has to.
Also, many of the Others in Ben's period of rule might be Dharma children, as well as people he recruited from off island. He seems, unlike Richard, to think much of the ways to take care of the island are off of it.
