The reason Ben and Sun didn't flash back when the others did is because the island exists outside of space/time in regards to everything else.
Thus, Ben and Sun are already on the island (or going to be) in 1977. We already know that Ben is there, I suspect that Sun will arrive on the sub as a little girl at some point, thus verifiying this.
What has happened has happened. The history or the Dharma initiative and what happened to them is sketchy at best. The whole REASON Ben was so interested in the plane crash to begin with is because he already knew who was on the plane because he's met them in 1977!
What we are seeing now is how our losties actually influeced the events that were to occur. They aren't changing anything, this is what has already occurred... its history.
