I'm kinda wondering if Ben's not attempting to change the course of actions here.
The reason I came to this conclusion is because of the look on his face when he realises Said is on the Ajira plane. I really think he understands at that moment that he won't be able to prevent his younger self to be shot in the past by the Iraqi.
I'm still not sure why he doesn't want that but his reaction was trully not : "what a good surprise, even Said is on board !"
I'm kind of wondering if he doesn't know at this point that he won't be part of the time jump to the seventies for that reason, but I'm still trying to give a good bunch of thoughts about this, perhaps you guys can fill the blanks on this.
This theory would explain why the younger Ben won't be killed in the coming episodes, of course.
