After rewatching the last few episodes of Lost, I've noticed a few things that may explain some of the msyteries surrounding our favorite time tossed islanders. First, how did Ben Linus return to the island after he said that the person who turns the wheel can never come back?
Ben Linus didn't completely turn the wheel. As we've seen, the wheel gets stuck and perhaps this is the reason why Ben is able to return to the island. The same may go for Locke. Lock only nudged the wheel a little bit, and this may be why both men have returned to the island. It has been stated that Charles Widmore is searching for the island has been searching for "20 years" (Miles Straume). Widmore's search is obviously precipitated by the fact that Be tricked him (5.07). This trick may involve Widmore himself turning the wheel, and perhaps when the wheel is properly turned, the person who turns cannot return. But this may not account for quarter turns and such.
Tying into the time tossing involved with wheel being improperly turned, Daniel Faraday seems to know a lot about this information. Is it possible that Daniel is Charles Widmore's child? Widmore has on the island in the 50s with a girl about his age named Ellie. Now, as we know, Daniel's mother's name is Eloise, so Ellie could be a shorter appellation of that. Also, Ellie and Widmore were similar ages. Throw in the fact that Daniel says, "You look a lot like somoen I know" (5.03) to Ellie when bopping through time, and it is possible that he is Charles Widmore's son (hence the funding of his experiments) and Ellie's as well (explaining not only the parentage, but possibly why Eloise Hawking knows about the Lamp Post). So why was Faraday sent to the island? Possibly for Widmore to put his son in charge of the Others.Theory by AnotherBen
