I finally decided to create an account for this site, seeing as I daily check the spoiler, theory, and poll section for small bits of info and interesting opinions on what is the greatest, densest, most incredibly crafted show of the past decade, Lost.
That being said, I've decided to give my take on Season 5 thus far and what I expect to come in the second half of the season. So where do we stand? It appears at last check, the O6 + Ben, a reincarnated Locke, and Frank (and I predict will soon be Desmond) have returned to the island to save the friends (Sawyer, Juliet, Miles, Faraday, Jin) they left behind. Our last glimpse of the survivors (if you watched "LaFleur) was Jack, Kate, and Hurley stepping out of a DHARMA van (driven by Jin) to meet Sawyer (now "Jim LaFleur) three years after they left the island.
Alright, now that I've set the basis for what has just recently happened, I'd like to predict what I expect from the rest of Season 5. As it stands, it would appear we are in the year 1977 on the main island. Though this may not be necessarily true for our 316 survivors (currently residing on the smaller island which Jack, Sawyer, and Kate were held for the first installment of Season 3, and also considering that time and space are all very relative questions when it comes to the island), it would appear that this is the time period we've landed on and will remain there for the rest of Season 5. What I'd essentially like to call the remainder of Season 5 (this is in no way indicative of a flaw in storytelling) a flashback which will set the stage for what is going to be a barn burner of a final season.
What do I mean by "a flashback". What we're going to see for the remainder of Season 5 is the DHARMA story and many of the mysteries which have plagued our minds for the past five years. It is my belief there will be more to come about Jacob (perhaps who he really is), the smoke monster, how it is Ben came to be so conniving and deceitful (Hell we all saw "The Man Behind the Curtain"; How did such a quiet Ben Linus become hell bent on destroying everyone and anyone who got in his way? Something must have happened to make him want to kill off all of his "people"). Also to come, how Ben got Widmore into leaving the island, Faraday warning Charlotte about her impending doom if she ever returns to the island (which it would appear was unsuccessful), and what I think will be the most interesting bit is what the "incident" was. This was first mentioned by Dr. Marvin Crandle in the Season 2 episode "Orientation" and somewhat elaborated on by Kelvin Inman in "Live Together, Die Alon! e". This event will most likely be explained in the Season 5 fianle, along with Widmore's departure. At some point, I am predicting, we will end up back in 2008, the regular on island time. Something will happen (again, most likely in the season finale) that sends or survivors back to their own time (perhaps something to do with the Orchid, seeing as it is currently being constructed with the help of Dan Faraday).
All in all, the second half of Season 5 is a flashback. We will uncover a great deal about the on island mysteries and this will lead to the set up of Season 6, which will explore the final fight between Widmore, Ben, and 815ers as to who will take final control of the island (Widmore did claim a war was coming in "Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham). This is what I'm expecting to come in the remainder of Season 5. Theory by OSU93
