It seems that suggestions that the statue we saw at the beginning of "LaFleur" was most likely of an Egyptian god (Horus, Anubis, Taweret, who I think might be the winner). While he is one of my favorite characters on the show, Richard has been the subject of some criticism and ridicule over the past few seasons due in sole part to his eyeliner. It remains unclear whether or not the use of a strange amount of eyeliner for a male actor is intentional for the character or just Nestor's on-camera preference.
However, throughout the course of the show we've seen a few blatant Egyptian images such as the hieroglyphics in the Swan and on the "Temple," and most recently the almost-certain Egyptian statue and Hurley's drawing in "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham." Since history tells us that ancient Egyptian men, particularly royal men, often wore eyeliner.
Is Richard an ancient Egyptian, possibly a God or mortal ruler of some sort? He is, after all, "very old" according to Juliet. Theory by Randall
