Here's my thoughts on what will happen next, in some areas, based on some little hints in LaFleur:
You will notice that in the chaos of the alarms when Richard, mr. Eye liner, is arriving in Dharmaville, that all the left behinders, EXCEPT Daniel, head in the same direction. Daniel goes a different direction. you will also notice that he is the ONLY one NOT in the house when Richard arrives?
Where did he go? We also never see him in 1977, although we do see him sneaking around the Orchid in Ep. 1 in a dharma construction uniform.
Here are my thoughts of where he went:
1st, he probably tried to talk to little Charlotte. after he was done freaking her out sufficiently he came up with his own plan to become part of Dharma. He then headed to the Orchid and started taking copious notes. Perhaps he figured out how to move that FDW and sent the Island BACK in time- ancient days which would reveal some history ( could this be the incident?), but then eventually moved it to 2008 and reconnected our Dharma Losties, the Oceanic 5 and Locke, Ben Ceasar and the others from Ajira.
Here's another little tidbit I noticed from the scene where the left behinders are herded into the house. the guy who herds them in tells "Helen" to keep an eye on them. You don't see her for long, but she looks an awful lot like Helen Norwood, Locke's ex-girlfriend. I did some comparisons and they look strikingly similar.
So, was she used by Dharma ( i.e Widmore) to help get Locke to the Island. Was she a plant the entire time? Or did Ben use her to rid Locke of any reason to stay in L.A. and that's why he apologizes to Locke for ruining his life in the Orchid station? hmmmm...
Either way she's been around and for all we know she still IS around and the whole death thing was one more manipulation to get Locke to go back and not to have anything to hold onto.
