Hey guys, I posted a theory a while back by the name of Time Loops Every time Ben is Surprised its because of Desmond. I have been thinking about it and I am more convinced than ever now that the losties are in a loop and Ben is aware of it. The latest new episode put me on this trail of thinking.
First, Faraday's comment that the Losties could do whatever they wanted because whatever happened, happened. I think Faraday realizes that the Losties must have been in the 70s originally, so anything they do, they have already done. That means that everyone who meets up with the DI in the upcoming episodes was predestined to land on the island; they had to get there so they could go back in time, because you can't change the past.
Second, Michael, Jack, and Tom's inability to off themselves (Jack was stopped from jumping off a bridge). Jack can't die because he has to go back in time because he has already done things in the 70s, and whatever happened happened. Michael and Tom can't kill themselves because during the first loop, they died when we saw them die. They couldn't die yet because that would change the loop, and whatever happened, happened.
Third, Richard's test to young John Locke. This has been troubling many people for a while; why wasn't Locke supposed to take the knife? Because Richard is not a part of the time loops, and Richard asked which of these was Locke's BEFORE. Richard knows the correct items as of the time Locke is born. However, Locke is a part of the time loop, and his time on the Island in the future is rooted in his subconscious (see his drawing of the smoke monster). For him, the knife IS something from "before", but to Richard, who isn't aware of the loops, it is an incorrect choice! (I'm not sure if anyone else is "aware" of things or if Locke is just "special")
So why would Richard later try to recruit Locke? I think that Richard found out that Abbadon (who we now know was employed by Ben) was trying to get Locke to the Island and realized that the test was wrong.
What is Ben's ultimate plan? Personally, I think he's sick of being stuck in a time loop, and he's going to try to break it the only way he can think of; he is going to try to find his childhood self on the Island. I am theorizing that if you run into your "doppelganger", the past version of yourself, while you are time jumping, it is the end of everything. The space time continuum goes Poof. No more Island, no more earth, no more Universe. This would definitely make Ben one of the best baddies of all time in my book. Why would anyone want to end all of existence?
"Because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."Theory by ivey_driveshaft
