I am almost certain that this is the absolute truth and that i have worked this out for myself. What i am snot sure of is, Many people have worked this out before?.
Anyway we all know that the polar bears were brought to the island by the infamous Dharma Iniative and that they brought them to the island for testings and experiments. What many people maybe will not have realized the meaning of the polar bear cages. Obviously the polar bears were being trained for something and it is my believe that they were trained for turning the donkey wheel to move the island. in series four the episode "confirmed dead" we see C.S Lewis in Tunisia with a team searching for something. We then see what appears to be a real skeleton of a real polar bear. Now this isn't your ordinary polar bear(and this isn't just because its in Tunisia ) no its actually because it beholds a Dharma Hydra station logo on its collar.
It is my believe that Pierre Chang realized the effects of the wheel and managed to use to his advantage. Therefore training polar bears to turn the wheel and therefore moving the island. This is a heel of a lot easier than sacrificing a human who does not want to end up in Tunisia-As we know this is the exit point. So all the proof therefore points in the direction that Polar bears were on the island to turn the wheel and that after the purge they were all" let loose"
My evidence for this theory
-The exit point for the Island is Tunisia.
-The polar bear with a Dharma collar is found in Tunisia.
-The donkey wheel room is freezing,perfect conditions for a polar bear.
-Both Ben and Locke both land in Tunisia after they turn the wheel.
