This theory may have been posted or presented in the past, but can't find it, and don't have 3 weeks to look through infinite numbers of theories.
I think that Jack Shepherd and Christian Shepherd are the same person. Jack will come to have the special ability to communicate with the past, including himself, which sets him apart from all other characters. He will be motivated by the fact that Sawyer told him that he only reacts to situations, and will actually become proactive. He is currently devising a plan, as of Season 5 episode 10 (where we are now), to go back in time to visit himself and other characters to shape the future for himself and friends. This will not occur until he is much older (aka, Christian age).
Much of the support is circumstantial, such as they are both the same type of doctor, they are both alcoholics, the show makes a point to introduce the grandfather/father. Why make these similarities and remain vague about Jack's childhood? Vagueness is an attempt to divert attention from the fact they are one in the same, while leaving minor clues along the way. Nobody, even young jack himself, knows that christian is himself...except christian of course (and maybe the grandfather/father). Christian could have easily "stepped" in to parent Jack when he was young, and we know that the grandfather is sort of "out there" anyway. Maybe he's in on it, maybe just demented and clueless? Regardless, please comment with support (even if circumstantial), or critique it so that I can stop thinking about it and move on.
Even if wrong, you have to admit it would be an awesome revelation / series ender.
Finally, on a somewhat related note, Jacob is a mechanism for the future people to control the past. Even Ben didn't believe Jacob existed when he made him up...and then Jacob spoke to Locke. The future losties "placed" a jacob there because they knew Ben would introduce him, and they placed him there to control their past and their fate, and to take control away from Ben. Jack/Christian and company are the Jacobs, and who know who resides with them. Theory by Mark
