Continuing with the previous "Jack 'The Leader'" theory.
In summary, the 1st 2 seasons were speant developing the nature of each character, answering what each Character is about. For those 2 seasons a leading theory was that the island was a place to resolve those character conflicts which largerly centered around whether a character was truly capable of some of the terrible acts they commited, or a better person at heart.
Jack - natural leader, with an accute ability to heal / severe father issues
Sawyer - a deeply caring person deprived of affection / turned his lack of love towards abusing others
Sayid - a passionate and fair individual / bread to torture when others used his sense of right and wrong against him
Kate - devoted to her family and boyfriend / killed in their name and is unable to face them
Hurley - friendly towards everyone / unable to accept his shortcomings, mostly his weight
Ben - smart and longing for a loving family / quick to hurt or kill for whatever purpose his feels worthy
My point centered around Jack and Ben. As I said I believe the ultimate resolution to the show will center around whether each character chooses the good natured side of themselves, or the evil natured side. The show to me is about light and dark and always has been.
So Jack, the good natured healed, ultimately vs. Ben the bad natured man who brings death. I believe the island brings out the quality of each character. Therefore when 815 crashed many lived because they were near Jack. Rose and Locke were cured. Ben meanwhile killed his mother at birth, and I believe has prevented others from becoming pregnant because his aura is bad. I'm not calling him evil. It's just his nature.
If you look at the characters above, and consider where they are going in the show, we should be able to figure out if their character is ultimately good or evil. I believe Sawyer and Hurley are ultimately good. Kate though, has never gotten over her devious and lying nature. Sayid seems to be good, but he has admitted several times that despite his attempts to deny it, at heart he was always a torturer.
Jack had to come back, because his healing influence is needed on the island. Without it, others were getting hurt. The 06 have been fine because he is keeping them safe off the island, but if has to go back, then the rest have to go, otherwise he is no longer protecting them.
This is where Jack's leadership comes into play. If you notice he is the one to lead them back. They can't go back without him, and it is only when he accepts his fate that they find their way. He leads them. That's his nature. Theory by Locke4God
