Seems like everyone and their dog has a Jack is Jacob theory. This is a quickie of a theory, based on nothing but a feeling - and not at all based on the obvious 'Jack is a variant of Jacob' argument.
Now, we have no idea what's to come in terms of the Losties being in 1977 with a young Ben. But imagine having gone through everything that's happened over the course of three years - crashing on the island, the effed-upedness that ensued, their getting off the island, returning to the island in 1977, etc... - and you meet the man who you largely felt was responsible for most of the pain that you've experienced during this time, only as a child. Maybe you realize "whoa, he's just a kid... he's not evil" and you basically tell him everything - and I mean everything - that's happened/going to happen (because their future is Ben's past, and their past is Ben's future). You make it clear in no uncertain terms that he is not to let ANY of the losties leave the island, despite the fact that they tell you in advance that they will do anything and everything necessary to do so.
Now what Jacob is and/or how he becomes whatever it is that he is, I don't think I can even guess. Perhaps he is Jack's consciousness trapped between times or spaces. That doesn't really matter, though.
What matters is that while turning the wheel, Ben says "I hope you're happy now, Jacob".
So picture Jack having told Ben, I will try so hard to leave - you MUST stop me, at all cost. Do anything you need to, just don't let me off. Yet despite all of Ben's efforts, Jack still prevailed - hence the 'I hope you're happy now'.
In the mobisode "King of the Castle", Ben tries to convince Jack to stay in a calm and rational manner, explaining to him that if he does leave, there may come a time where he might want to return. Jack's not having any of it, though.
The show opened with Jack. I believe Jack will turn out to be Jacob. I think the obviousness of the choice is what makes it the least obvious choice, so everyone is out to discredit it. The producers have taken the arc of Jack's story from hero to disgrace to obsolescence all in the span of roughly 20 episodes. I have a good mind to think it will come back around somehow by season or series end - but that something, perhaps the incident, is what causes Jack to become 'Jacob' and to be trapped is this state that he is in. I'd just be guessing if I took a stab as to what the cause is - nonetheless, I am certain Jack will turn out to be Jacob.
