So finally in tonights episode we saw a glimpse of that bloody statue. I had been waiting for two and a half seasons for them to return to that and once I saw the back end of it in its entirety I started to ponder what the island was originally used for. This show has always been heavily based on ancient mythology, but until the time travel aspect was introduced, I always thought that the mythology was used as a metaphor for what the 815 survivors were going through. Now I am convinced that this show IS about mythology and NOT about our characters. When I saw the statue I got to thinking about not only ancient egyptian mythology but even further back to the greek myths that some of the egyptian gods are based on. Before reading my theory, you must realize that it is far fetched...but so is this show if you haven't noticed. There is a smoke monster and time travel and disappearing islands and people coming b! ack to life etc........so I don't think what I am about to say will be too shocking. Here it goes.
Quick story of Demeter (husband of Zeuss in some greek myths) and her daughter Persephone (Goddess of fertility and simultaneously queen of the underworld). Persephone is out picking flowers one day and Pluto kidnaps her and makes her his wife and goddess ofthe underworld. Demeter finally finds her and rescues her. However before persephone leaves she is tricked into eading some seeds that forces her to spend the rest of eternity spending half of every year in the underworld and the other half on the earth with her mother. This is her DESTINY. Here is where my theory starts.
Demeter and Zeuss create the island to hide persephone from the underworld. It has powers to move through space and time and can never be found. Persephone resides on the island (for half the year when she is supposed to be in Hades) with a security system created by the gods to protect her (smoke monster). Eventually she gets lonely so Demeter gives her a mate. His name is Jacob. Jacob's one duty is to protect persephone from being found. He is told how to move the island if need be. He is granted with eternal life on the island for his duties of protecting persephone. years later, the island is found by Richard and his Egyptian buddies by accident. Instead of allowing the smoke monster to kill them, Jacob promises all of them eternal life if they promise to help him protect Persephone and keep her hidden. They are told the secrets of the island and given eternal life (this is why Richard doesn't age). Richard and his men build a temple to honor Persephone and bu! ild huge monuments and statues of her because she is good to them and they can live forever on the island. Jacob is king of the island and he and Richards people live and protect the island for tens of thousands of years until science finally finds the island in the Dharma initiative.
Meanwhile, Pluto in the underworld is pissed because he has no means to find Persephone. He confronts Zeuss tells him that he will never find him. However, Pluto is smart. Pluto bides his time and realizes that the people on earth will eventually progress enough and become smart enough that they will have the means to find the island. He waits for technology to advance enough that people will eventually be able to find the island.
Flash to present. BAM!!! 815 crashes on the island. people are able to find the island using physics equations. Eventually more and more people will find out about the island and its powers. Once they do, there will be wars among the world to find it and exploit it. Once it is found, it will either be destroyed by one of the players, or become accessible to all. Either way, Pluto will know where the island is and find Persephone. However, these wars will eventually lead to the end of the world. And somehow our losties (namely Faraday) will figure that out using the Valenzetti equation and try to stop it. He will realize that the only way to stop the world from ending is to destroy the island. Without the island, none of this would happen. I should mention that none of our losties know about the whole Persephone thing, for all they know they are just gonna try and save the world.
So......What is the one thing that could destroy the entire island??? Answer: Jughead. I believe that the very first scene from this season with Daniel in the orchid will take place and Daniel will realize that somebody needs to turn that wheel so they can go back and blow the crap out of the island to save the world. The final scene of season 6 will be jughead going off and boom....no more island. no more safe haven for persephone. She goes on to fulfill her DESTINY, and our losties save the world from ending.
