I just had a theory about how the different season's of lost link together, so this is my idea, the swan incident was some sort of magnetic explosion, like an emp pulse, that polarized all the molecules of the island. Then the magnet was set on a system of button pushing where the magnet unpolarized the molecules of the entire island. I theorize this also made the island invisible to radar and even the human eye except when you became close. But after every 108 minutes, the magnet would unstablize and become so strong it pulled anything metal closer to it as well. So while Desmond was killing kelvin, the magnet gained too much energy and pulled flight 815 out of the air. But that time, desmond came in the nick of time of the entire structure getting ready to collapse on itself.
The second time wasn't near as lucky as the computer was destroyed. When desmond turned the key, he became unpolarized himself and that is why he is so special.
But it also had a severe affect of destroying the swan station completely eliminating the only way of depolarizing molecules on the island. Benjamin Linus illuded that he knew this point while speaking about the Orchid station. He knew that now all the particles on the island were charged and that using the frozen donkey wheel would have unknown effects.
This leads me to the second part of my Theory which deals with the Orchid. The Orchid, I still haven't worked out all the kinks, this is all I know.
-Said to lay on negatively charged exotic matter.(or in other terms antimatter)
-Don't put metal in it.
-Unstable as demonstrated by the orchid video.
Frozen Donkey Wheel
-Sends the turner to Tunisia sometime into the future
-Frozen around the wheel
My theory is that this works with the swan's pocket of magnetism. If negative matter touches positive matter you get an antimatter explosion. Which lets out an insane ammount of energy, this is the limitless energy chang was talking about. Anyways though, the magnets keep the separation of matter and antimatter kinda in a sort of vacuum. The frozen donkey wheel could have allowed the natives to use the power but destabilizing the vacuum momentarily but reliably because it was closer to the interior of the abnomaly. The Orchid station could send things as well, but not with as great accuracy and only minutes into the future.
Now the orchid usually worked fine I theorize, the island would move, the mover would be taken to opposite wherever the island was at that point. The main difference being that the Orchid wasn't used after the molecules of the island became polarized. Both groups, the others and dharma, agreed using the wheel would destabilize the island.
