Faraday, The Incident, Edited films, and protecting the future by Dogma9

I recently have beeing doing research,and if you search "Faraday Cage" in wikipedia, youl find a device that acts SIMILIAR to the Swan.

So, I got thinking, Desmond and him have been working closely. He knows alot about time travel/electromagnetism. WHAT if Dan Faraday built the Swan?

I mean his general knowledge in this area(even built a machine that has a SIMILIAR effect to the failsafe key/purple sky event) This Seems to suggest that Dan and the Swan should be related

Now, heres my theory:

In order to get home, ur gonna need ALOT of energy, and the Orchid isnt even fully built yet. Plus, turning the wheel probably wont do it, because thats a 1 way trip.

So, my guess is they are going to need a source of energy to get EVERYONE home,(back to the present) and I doubt Faraday would risk recking the Donkey Wheel(Because its so important)

But, since we KNOW The Swan has a problem in the future, it would be perfectly OKAY for them to, tap into the Swans energy(thus causing the incident in the first place) and sending everyone home.

But, if its some type of, rigged together machine(maybe involving Jughead??), SOMONES going to have to stay behind and activate it right? (Plus the finales always have a few deaths)

knowing Faraday/how hurt he is over Charlotte, hes probably going to stay behind and activate the machine.

Now throughout the Season, Dan may begin to share his future knowldge with Candle, and become an important worker.

So, when he discovers that he released a bunch of this energy, he asks Candle if he can try ans solve the problem. Candle, trusting Dans future knowledge agrees


So Dan "Invents" a protocal to help it.

And thus creates the Swan and the button.

Now you have to remember, Dan knows about the purge AND the future. So he knows that by staying himself, and ALL of DHARMA are going to die.

And, hes fine with that. He he probably also has to work with other members of the initative. Particuarly with the Radensky.

So maybe hes sees somthing of himself in old Radensky, and sends him down INTO the Swan as its first member, to protect him from the purge.

Now, we know that the 06 are working in DHARMA well, what if some images of them get caught in the orientation film?

This would serve Radensky with a secondary purpose, editing images of the O6 OUT of the orientation films.

Of course, The purge eventually happens in 1992, and Dan is killed in the past. Hes also not aware Radensky kills himself later. (opps)

My guess is, that before placing him down there, Dan tells him about everything. Radenskiy eventually goes crazy, knowing that is only purpose down here, is to protect the Swan long enough for SOMEONE to come down, and eventually blow it up.

He gets a massive case of "Why mes"(Why should I be stuck here forever, and somone ELSE get to be free of this thing) and EVENTUALLY shoots himself.

Dan also invents a failsafe key to blow the hatchfor when it is needed (perhaps the failsafe is really successful version of whatever he was TRYING to do to that girl? )

Anyway, Dan knows in the future the Swan is blown up, and works that into his design(He tries to deter Radensky from using it by stating how unpredictable it is, and that using it might just destroy the island anyway)


So, my guess is THATS his redemption story.

Dan will FINALLY use his science to build a machine that HELPS people, instead of hurting them.

And, will also have created the Swan, a VERY intrecicle part of ALL the Seasons

1: (The hatch mystery/prevents Desmond from killing himself)

2: (The button)

3: (Gave Desmond his powers which allowed him to save Charlie)

4: (the eventually cause of the Freighters arrival(The System failsure revealing the island and how Penny knew where to rescue them)
