This first part is not a theory but something I just noticed and wasnt sure where to post it, as I have only just stumbled upon this site about 2 weeks ago. But the second is a theory, but not a very good one.
I was just at abc.com and was watching LOST: The Missing Pieces and there is a segment called King of the Castle. It's Jack and Ben playing chess in Bens house from season 2, I believe. Ben asks Jack, "This must be weird for you." and Jack responds with, "Not really, my father taught me how to play when I was a kid." In this seasons episode when Jack and Ben are on 316 Jack asks Ben, "How can you read?" and Ben states, "My mother taught me." Now we all know that Bens mother died in child birth, so I know that Ben is just being a smart aleck, but it's funny how this situation is twisted here. Just following the comment is King of the Castle, Ben tells Jack that if he leaves the island, there may come a time when he wants to return and Jack says never. Ben tells him that he has learned to never say never.
Now, a theory that I had after reading someone elses post, there post gave a theory as to why Ben treated Kate, Jack and Sayid different when he took them captive. He treated Jack mostly with indeference, that is, until Jack saw his x-rays and questioned Ben about them. Now my thinking comes in here. Young Ben is shot in 1977 and I think that he will survive the shooting. He will be taken back to dharmaville, I believe that was posted somewhere. Now, as a doctor, you see a 12 year old boy being brought in with a bullet wound to the chest, are you going to stand by and do nothing? No, until he finds out who the boy is. So Jack has the ability to help him and he doesnt WANT to. Maybe he's thinking along the same lines as Sayid. If he doesnt save him then Ben cant grow up to be the evil person they all think he is. So, maybe Juliet saves him? Maybe the dr that was there when Amy went into labor saves him? Either way, I dont think Jack will. So, fast forward to 2004 and you have! Big Ben and Jack. Jack has just seen the x-rays and is talking with Ben. Im not sure of the verbatium here but Jack says to Ben, "You WANT me to save you?" and Ben says, "No Jack, I WANT you to WANT to save me." Hmmmm, interesting. Maybe the reason Ben wanted Jack to save him in 2004 is because Jack didnt want to save him in 1977. He's making a deal with Jack, you save me I let you go. He's making it where Jack has no choice but to save him. Whether Jack like it or not, he will save Ben. Ive never posted a theory before, and I'm sorry if any of this has been said before.
