We heard a lot of things about Swan station, about its purposes. Saving the world, observing people behavior and so on. But what if still don't know the truth.
Let's remember some facts:
-Desmond, sitting in the station, was pushing every 108 minutes a button to "save the world" (or discharging some big electromagnetic thing under the station).
-After the implosion Desmond "remembered" some things from the past, like the meeting with ms. Hawkings. She said that Desmond had to push the button, because it's important!
-now we see that this woman is looking for an island with Ben.
-during the Swan implosion sky turned purple like during the wheel turning.
-after the sky turned purple others had problems with communication (of cause they solved this problem a little bit later)..
What if the island moved in space (only). The reason of its movement was the Swan implosion, because the main purpose of the swan station, like the anchor on the ship, was preventing island from moving. What if this thing under station kept island in one location. But it's gone. And island moved.
That's why the pushing of button was important to ms. Hawkings, so she or they can't lose the island from sight and prevent island from finding by others, like Charles Widmore.
But the island moved, during this moving it became visible. And because it changed its position others needed time to understand where they are to make the communication available in both directions (to receive and to send, to leave the island and to get back). Theory by chalovak
