Jacob is comprised of 3 men: Charles Widmore, Desmond Hume, and John Locke
For out current time line I beleive we are only seeing 2 of the 3: Charles and Desmond. I think John as Jacob will come in S6.
When dealing with Jacob we see dual nature...light and dark.
Biblical Jacob did have a Brother, Esu. I think the LOST writers use
the idea of a brother to reinforce their LOST Experience idea of a Bad Twin.
Examples of dualty:
In The Shape of Things to Come when Alex dies at the hands of Keamy Be says, "He changed the rules!"
Jacob has the ability to protect and control life on the Island. ( gun jams, cancer prevention, ect)
Ben might have known that one of the Jacob's was Widmore and this is why he vowed revenge on him.
Another referance of dualty is with Christian Sheppard. Often we see Christian in differant attire.
I believe it is a reflection of whoever Jacob is at THAT time.
In addition I believe the living-dead use the Smoke Monster, Cerebrus, as a Proxy in order to project and materialize through him....interestingly, from This Place is Death we learn that
Cerebrus (think Dante's Inferno: a many headed beast) has
the ability to wipe your character traits clean (Tubala Rasa) and turn you into a Bad Twin in order to accomplish Jacob's Task. -Cerebrus himself may be the equivelent to Jacob's dog...a man's best friend who obeys no matter what...If there are differant Jacobs, it may explainwhy Cerebrus seems tempramental.
Charles Widmore points out: "A war is coming" ...we continously see white and black refrences to show that this war is already
manifesting: Backgamon/Chess/stones/dharma logos/Christian's shoes...all points to this conclusion
In addition, Biblical Daniel was MOST known for his ability to translate visions and dreams...
One day there was a mysterious image that showed up on the King's wall...
Daniel translated it...the days of the Kingdom were numbered (Vanzetti Equation)!
That night the King was slain and a transition of power happened!!!!!
I believe the King is who ever the current Jacob is.
In addition, some film addaptations of Alice in Wonderland, Alice's purpose is to slay the Jabberwocky!
I believe ultimately this will Be John's task and that he will be the next Jacob.
Also in biblical scripture, Jacob's Latter, Jacob himself has a brother, Esu the HUNTER.
I personaly think they use the idea of twins and brothers as way to show dualty and possible differances/simularities
between two people.
The reason for Desmond:
Desmond has been officialy been named special...he does not have to follow the same set of 'rules' as everybody else...but that does not mean that he doesn't have any.
Something else that is suspicious is the Monostary...Hawkings is obviously in ka-hoots with the monk and yet the day Desmond was dismissed, Penny shows up and askes him to go with her. -and we know now that Hawking is capable of figuring out allgerythms to determan probable EVENTS.
As the Event Changer Desmond may prove to be VERY valueble.
and it seems that it might come down to that the differant rules imply that Desmond may become 'unstuck' from time to time and as some of us were already thinking, this may be why Jacob appears, or lacks appearance, to us, because he is unstuck too?
There may be consequences for being able to Change Events...like forever being LOST. I have ALWAYS thought Jacob was a parody to Jacob Marley of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol!!! Jacob the ghost of Island's present, future and past! -and Desmond's book, the one he wants to read before he dies, Our Mutual Friend, is also a Charles Dicken's novel....and Christmas is when Desmond found his constant and talked to Penny!
-Naomi Dorrit is also of Charles Dickens refferance and she had (a copy?) the picture of them both and was hired by Widmore
And in Because You Left Sawyer says, "And now the ghost of Christmas future came banging at his door!" -right outside of the Swan's other door in which Desmond was about to come out of!!!
There are other Charles Dicken's Christmas works that I think could come into play:
The Haunted Man and the Ghost’s Bargain, A Fancy for Christmas-Time, a novel by Charles Dickens, was first published in 1848. It is the fifth and last of Dickens' Christmas novellas. The story is more about the spirit of the holidays than about the holidays themselves, harkening back to the first of the series, A Christmas Carol. The tale centers around a Professor Redlaw and those close to him.
Plot:
Redlaw is a teacher of chemistry who often broods over wrongs done him and grief from his past.
He is haunted by a spirit, who is not so much a ghost as Redlaw's phantom twin and is "an awful likeness of himself...with his features, and his bright eyes, and his grizzled hair, and dressed in the gloomy shadow of his dress..." This specter appears and proposes to Redlaw that he can allow him to "forget the sorrow, wrong, and trouble you have known...to cancel their remembrance..." Redlaw is hesitant at first, but finally agrees. However, before the spirit vanishes it imposes an additional consequence: "The gift that I have given you, you shall give again, go where you will."
Besides Redlaw, the book is populated with the people of Redlaw's life. Most of them are semi-comical characters such as the Tetterby family who rent a room to one of Redlaw's students and Swidger family who are Redlaw's servants. Milly Swidger, William Swidger's wife, is another of the absolutely and completely good females that frequent many of Dickens'
As a consequence of the ghost's intervention Redlaw is without memories of the painful incidents from his past. He experiences a universal anger that he cannot explain. His bitterness spreads to the Swidgers, the Tetterbys and his student. All become as wrathful as Redlaw himself. The only one who is able to avoid the bitterness is Milly.
The narrative climaxes when Milly presents the moral of the tale: "It is important to remember past sorrows and wrongs so that you can then forgive those responsible and, in doing so, unburden your soul and mature as a human being." With this realization, the novel concludes with everyone back to normal and Redlaw, like Ebenezer Scrooge, a changed, more loving and whole person.
Now we also see That Daniel may also play into this as 'Desmond's Trigger'.
ALL of Charles Dickens' Works are MOSTLY about IMPRISONMENT!
There is also an episode, Tale of Two Cites, a CD work...in LOST it manfests into Romeo and Juliet and with in it's own tale...a WAR between two groups.
Also in The Beginning of the End, the whisper's outside of the cabin seem to refer to Desmond...and when Hugo looks in, IMO, the eye we see remind's me of Desmond's.
For a long time I though Desmond was a mole for Charles Widmore and now maybe even Ben, but the catch is, he never knew he was their mole! I think he is the set up to free Charle's as Jacob.
-It's possible that Libby was hired find and sell Desmond that boat, even though Libby is a nickname for Elizabeth, it might just be a cover...we don't know WHO made that boat, what company. And the WAY Penny was just sort of waiting for him, I think is NO coicidence...
Charles Widmore:
It ultimatley seems we know very little about him, except that from the time of his youth to an older man he has learned to control his emotions. And out of all character's he is at the HEART of the entanglement...Hawking, Dan, Penny, Desmond, John, Ben, and Richard.
In a receant interview the actor who plays young Ben said, 'that Charles Widmore's presence is ever eminent on the Island and he believes because of that, Charles is Jacob'....I think so too, but only at CERTAIN times.
The reason I say certian times is because Jacob appears, or lacks of appearance, makes him seem TIMELESS....and if he is, then that makes him relative and could mean that a 'Jacob' could exsist in any Island Time...but perhaps there are some stipulations as to how long and once a Jacob rules a certian time, no other Jacob's can take or ulter that time???????
John/Desmond: Parody to Starwars:
From the get-go with that scar no Starwars fans would think twice about the scar on Johns face in the crash's resemblance of Anakin Skywalker...who vows to be 'The MOST Powerful Jedi EVER!!!'
1. abandonment issues (John more than Des)
2. losing the person you love: (If Desmond loses Penny I believe his rage will be equivelent)
3. Heirarchy:" always two there are" = transition of power
4. Phantom Menace/Clone = Bad Twin = Living dead
5. Being chosen:Jedi mind tricks: John = Richard Alpert's Visit 1956 Desmond = Hawking says HE MUST GO to the Island
(Both survived Hatch implosion)
6: Light and Dark side of the FORCE = Twins/Brothers/black and white/the war...a person can Atone till the FINAL JUDGEMENT (Luke proves you can bring people back from the dark side)
7: Obi-wan: = progress of John
8: Salvation/prophecey: through the Son = (see Below) Father, Son, Holy Spirit
The reason for 3:
First there is the Pirates of the Carribean Series:
Like Pirates The ship, The Flying Dutchman MUST always have a Captian. I think the Island MUST always have a Jacob!
With that we learn that the Job of character Davey Jones is to FERRY THE SOLES of the DEAD to the Next World, but Davey Jones, raged and heartbroken becomes cruel, enslaves the dead to AVOID FINAL JUDGEMENT (Daniel = God is my Judge)! He becomes more barnicle-like and less of a man with every bad act and even the crew can eventually become the ship....But worst of Davey Jones created a horrible-limbo place called DAVEY JONES LOCKER.
There are SO many underworld/hell/purgatory referances to LOST that this seems fitting that The Island could become THIS way under the wrong Leader/God/King!
In addtion you can pick out my three Jacob's with above: Desmond DAVID Hume, Charles 'JONES' Widmore, and John LOCKE.
I believe a heartbroken Desmond would be the most horrific Jacob EVER!
The Holy Trinity:
So in various forms of religion, especialy Christianity, we have 'The Father, the Son, and The Holy Spirit'.
Obviously there is a HUGE theam through out LOST with Father's and Son's...Christian to Jack, Anthony to John,
Roger to Ben, and want to be dad Charlie to Aaron, and want to be son Desmond to Charles.
There is a debate amoungst believers in the interpertation as it presented in Biblical scripture: the reason has to to do
with the father and son part....in a literal sense a Father and Son are more alike and interchangeable because every son comes from a father.
A: Is that each part is a SEPERATE entitiy as each represents a differant a differant aspect of God.
B: The 3 are seen as an Evolutionary Process or Transition (heirarchy/free mason: master-idealology) in order to become/understand God.
Interestingly, I see through Desmond 3 aspects (pay it forward) of Charles/ie: His Son, His Father-in Law, and his Holy Ghost Friend, Charlie Pace.
But getting Back to the 3 that I think are Jacob:
Charles: The Father, Desmond: the Son, and John: Holy Spirit.
Jacobs' Communication:
1. Through Island Leaders:
J: Jack A: Aaron C: Charles O: jOhn B: Ben (when you have two people starting with the same letter you go to next letter)
(I have a feeling ALL of the above are also wheel-turners) -like POTC: Will Turner! (Free will to turn the wheel)
2: Cerebrus:
A: His Chamber: gives one a NEW purpose
B: Proxy: The living dead used As Spokesperson
3: Visions and Dreams
Things in twos are usually apart of threes, as three is the strongest number..like in.building such as Pyramid
Time and Space = Past, Present, Future Theory by DarthLocke
