How did he crash on the island? How did he die? Why did Benjamin Linus say he was Henry? I’m going to find out. This is my theory about Henry Gale.
Somewhere in 2003 Henry Gale crashed on the island in his balloon. The most interesting about his balloon is of course the Widmore logo. This could mean that he was sent by Charles Widmore (who always wanted to locate the island), Penelope Widmore, or he just bought the balloon from Widmore Company.
Because the character refers to the uncle from the Wizard of Oz, I am sure there will be a nice story made up for Henry by the writers. That is why I think he didn’t buy the balloon from Widmore’s company; he wanted to find either Desmond or the island.
Desmond was already on the island when Henry crashed. Did Penelope send Gale to the island? This could be an option. But why would she send Gale on a mission in a balloon and why would he write the following on a 20 dollar note.
Jennifer,
Well you were
right. Crossing
the Pacific
isn't easy.
If he really wrote this himself (and I think it’s obvious) then Penelope didn’t send him, he just wanted to cross the Pacific.
Charles Widmore knew about the island and he knew everything about the Others because he was one of them once. He knew that Henry would be attacked by them if they only thought he was sent by Widmore. That is why he told Henry to write the fake message on the note. It didn’t work out as he thought it would because Ben probably killed him anyway.
Perhaps Henry didn't even know he was heading towards the island. Desmond was trying to win a race because of Widmore, Charles maybe wanted to get Desmond on a boat and led him to the island. We have no clue about how he did it but it could be about the same thing as Henry Gale's balloon journey. Both had a connection with Widmore Company, travelling around the island and willingly or not, they crashed.
Back to Ben, why would he kill Henry? There is more than just one reason. He wanted to talk to John Locke and of course he needed a fake name to do that. That is exactly what he did when he was ‘caught’ by Danielle Rousseau. I think Ben also saw the Widmore logo on Gale’s balloon and that could be another reason for him to kill him.
When Sayid tortured Ben in the Swan Station he didn’t know why but he didn’t feel sorry for Ben when he hurt him. He told to Charlie he didn’t regret his torturing and he didn’t know why. He couldn’t explain it to either Jack or Locke.
I think Sayid is back on the island now because Jack, Kate and Hurley are also back. Maybe there is going to be another flash and that’s when they travel to the time Henry Gale gets killed. Perhaps Sayid even watches it happening but he knows he can’t change the future. When Ben or Sayid buries Henry Gale, Sayid has this memory, before he is even born.
When he tortures Ben, he just knows Linus is not Henry Gale because he saw the murder happening. It’s not really a memory, but like John Locke remembered the Smoke monster as a kid, Sayid somehow remembers what he saw after a time flash. Theory by DutchLost
