Hey guys! My theory for today will be about the one and only Smoke Monster. So here we go. We will also be talking about The Dharma Initiative and what both of those are.
The Monster has been seen in late 1988 attacking the Science Expedition. It slowly looks fierce upon Montand and grabs him by the leg and tries to pull him into a "hole" of some sort. In the Season 1 episode "Exodus part 2" ,We see the monster try to John Locke into a similar looking "hole". These "holes" are known as "Cerberus Vents" to The Dharma Initiative, and the Monster is known as Cerberus. The Monster can appear to take the form of dead people or animals. Much like how Jack Shepard experiences "visions" of his own dead father: Christian Shepard. When Jack finds his fathers coffin, it appears to be empty. Much like when Eko Tunde had visions of his dead brother: Yemi Tunde. When Eko looks for his brothers body in the "beech craft" and it appeared to be gone and no where to be found. The Monster can apparently go inside the corpses of the dead and animate them and appearing to be "alive". Not much like Kate Austan's vision of her black horse like the one she used to escape the U.S. Marshal. Dave is a figment of Hugo's imagination. The "visions" or the Monster is explained here:

It was a group of people who found the Island using a station called the "Lamp Post" and once they had gotten to the island they had the idea of building stations there to. Like the Others, they too had found out that the Island was "special" so they conducted research on the Island, but soon came in "contact" with the Others and had a "war" with them. Ben had come to terms with the others and had joined them, which then leaded to him "purging" the whole Initiative. It has been confirmed that Pierre Chang had been killed as well.
