This is possibly a bit juvenile, but I wanted to bring it up just because I hadn't seen a theory dealing with Richard's age in a while. I think Richard is from the future. He hasn't been born yet. Maybe that's why he doesn't age... something to do with being outside of/ before his timeline. The only thing that I have to make me think this is the way Ben said to Richard in S3 The Man Behind the Curtain, "you do remember birthdays?" This makes me think Richard obviously aged to a point and then stopped—perhaps because the Island moved and left him way back in time.
Another thing to point out is that Richard is the only person to our knowledge to be around for so long. Why does everyone else age? This difference can only be explained by the fact that he is special or that he is the only one of the Others to have done/experienced something.
In addition, although Richard has been around a long time, he is not the actual leader of the Others. He may be, in a way, but he seems to be more of a guide or consigliere to Ben (and John). This is because he knows what happens or is supposed to the Island in the future. Thus, he helps find the leaders, but he takes a back seat in the events that unfold.
