I have started to believe that certain people on this wacky island are consciously connected to the past/present/future.
In the "Flashes" episode, Desmond connects his past with his present. In the "Constant", Desmond actually changes his past to create a new timeline.
Ben, Locke, Mrs. Hawkings & other people (I bet Addandon & Widmore will also exhibit this behavior) have all had these instincts that are way too RIGHT. Its as if they already had the information on what to do & how it will affect people around them. I don't believe its because they already lived it, I believe its because their minds are free of time restraints. Its like they live with past memories, current life & can access future memories to solve current problems.
I know this is far-fetched but think about Mrs. Hawkings & how she did not ask about Daniel in episode 316. She did not ask exactly what was wrong or how he needed her help. She just knew exactly what to do & that returning the O5 would solve everything for Daniel. She did not question her own actions & remained steadfast on what needed to be done.
I think Ben has this type of future access too. He somehow knows what is going to happen or how it will play out. With the exception of Alex's death, somehow this was not in his future memory. But Ben is 5 steps ahead of everyone all the time.
This could also explain how Widmore went from lowly other-solider to mega rich. If he could access a future consciousness, he would know how to make investments & make business deals to make himself rich.
Locke has not released all his future consciousness yet, but as time passess he is starting to have better & better "instincts". Too bad he is dead, at least he is for now... Theory by Delilah
