Ben’s 505 Reincarnation Van Rant indicates that as morally ambiguous as his actions may appear, that he really IS a Good Guy compared to The Real Bad Guys.
IMO, The Real Bad Guys are the ones who tried (and failed) to get Hugo to commit suicide by leaping off the “Dave” cliff. If I’m right about this, it means that They/It can Manifest ”real” three-dimensional walking, talking “Persons”. The fact that this murder-by-suicide was foiled by Libby suggests that she was planted on Flight 815 by The Good Guys.
I also think that the Real Bad Guys tried (and failed) to kill Charlie before he could swim down to the LG and unjam the jammer. The Real Bad Guys tried to kill Charlie by nudging him to become a Heroin addict, by hanging him from a tree by the neck, by lightning strike and by multiple drownings. If not for the intervention of St John of The Moth, Doctor “Miracle” Jack and Brotha Desmond, they would have succeeded. In fact, in previous Time Loops, they probably did succeed.
It seems to me that Jacob, Christian, Ben, Ms Hawking and maybe even Charles Widmore are all Good Guys whose goal is to save all Human Life. So ... who could possibly be so evil as to wish for the Death of All Human Life?
My best guess is ... the Dark Side of The Island
I think that any Power or Force willing to rip the arm off an innocent human and then to instantly possess said victim in order to entice his three buddies into sharing his Fate ... any Power willing to then use one of these “Changelings” to attempt to murder an innocent pregnant woman ... such a Force might be Hostile (and inhuman) enough to wish for the death of all Humans.
By now we know that The Island can Manifest “Non-Living Persons” including “Yemi” and “Emily Linus”, and we know that it can “speak through” living humans including (injured) Ford asking Kate why she killed him and (injured) Eko telling John that he is a Hunter. As of 505, we know that it can “possess” living humans and force them into Evil Deeds. For me, this is (finally) evidence to support the Bad Twin speculation that’s been floating around for years.
Assuming that Team Jacob knows all about The Real Bad Guys and has been trying for decades if not centuries to defeat them, no wonder it’s such a titanic struggle. Theory by Roland
