I am a big fan of Space Odyssey and when I saw that episode Left Behind when Kate and Juliette are handcuffed together I came up with this idea. Remember when they are hiding in that tree and Smokie approaches them and it seems like its taking snapshots of Juliette. That's the first time that I saw it from different perspective, not as IT, SOMETHING, SPIRIT or whatever...I saw it as a machine. It reminded me of Monolith. And the story goes like this...
Waking at sunrise, a tribe of herbivore apes find that a mysterious black, rectangular monolith has appeared in front of their shelter. They approach the monolith shrieking and jumping. Subsequently, one of the apes, realizes how to use a bone as both tool and a weapon while having mental flashbacks to the monolith, indicating that the monolith has either "taught" or inspired him to this knowledge. The apes are now able to kill animals and eat meat. Next morning they wrest control of the water hole away from the other tribe, killing their leader in the process. Exultant in victory, the ape leader throws his bone into the air which switches via match cut to a shot of an orbital satellite millions of years in the future, circa 2000.
What if the Black Smoke is some kind of a machine which is able to scan your brain and its potential, thoughts, the essence of your being and its working for the island, improving those who have potential and killing those (or just hurting) who are not suppose to be there or who are there to do harm.
-pilot-not suppose to be there, Frank Lapidus suppose to fly that plane
-Eko-not suppose to be on flight 815, he shouldve died before, on that airport when Yemi was killed or in crash or Ethan would shot him at some point right after Nigerian plane went down
-Keamy and his crew who were there to do harm
Black Monster is not a MONSTER. Maybe it looks like a monster (I mean I wouldn't be comfortable if I was face to face with Smokie:)) but in fact its a machine, a mechanism that triggers your potential.
Here are some things about monolith:
-monolith is black
-monolith is actually one size - as large as necessary.
-they appear to be extremely long lived and reliable machines, being able to survive for millions of years buried in the ground or resisting meteorite impacts and radiation in space, with no apparent damage
-they possess some sort of force field
-while it is unclear what the composition of the monoliths are, they clearly have mass
-density is slightly higher than air
-Among the more dramatic functions of the monoliths are the ability to teleport and self replicate.
-it can teleport itself (disappear and reappear elsewhere)
-monolith is controlled by someone or by computer
What do we know about Black Smoke?
-it is black :)
-it can be small or very large, depending on situation
-we don't know where it lives but my guess is under ground (we know it can go under ground cause in one episode it pulled Locke down)
-it has mass
-it almost always disappears (probably reappearing elsewhere)
-and its controlled by Ben from his secret room in a basement. What he has down there? Computer maybe..hm Theory by Mo
