Frozen donkey wheel from start reminded me of a steering wheel (helm) from some kind of ship, except here the position is not right (instead of being vertical its horizontal!
An island or isle is any piece of land that is surrounded by water in two dimensions, above high tide, and isolated from other significant landmasses. OK. So Island doesn't float around because it is attached but it can float if it's not an ordinary island. It can float around if it's a ship.
When Ben turns that 'donkey wheel' he moved something or someone through the space or time or both. What we saw (first time, from the chopper) was an island capped in bright light. In few seconds island disappeared. The island in fact is moving, traveling or whatever you prefer but it is moving much faster then a normal ship (that's why the bright light which reminds me of Star Trek a bit-warp speed :)) So the island is moving through space (all over the Earth) as if it was a ship.
And it's moving fast as if it's some kind of 'Earth space ship' :)
And it's moving through time (well my opinion that Losties are and not the island itself).
But here is the question: what is going on with The Others? They are not moving through time with Losties. But how come Juliette does? And Cindy, the stewardess of flight 815 doesn't?
And how come Ethan doesn't notice the bright light at all and Desmond is well aware of it?
So, the island is somewhere in different space and different time and it will travel in that manner until someone puts an end of it. It will probably be Locke, putting the steering wheel in its prior position thus giving a chance to Mrs Hawking of finding it in a first place. But then why 70 hours? Hm... Theory by Mo
