Ok so I have recently developed a theory on Rose that I'd like to share. This is my first theory that Ive decided to post, and I will admit before I begin that this theory may be a little vague and will probably end up having more than one hole, but I'm gonna give it a shot anyway.
Before I start on Rose, I wanna raise a question about another "special" lostie with a little more screen time. Desmond has been referred to as being "uniquely special", given his ability to transfer his conciousness from one time to another. This is distinctly different than how we have seen other losties time travel; physically moving via the flashes. Now in the the episode "The Constant" Daniel Faraday, when learning about Desmond's condition and apparent conciousness-travel, he asks if Desmond has been exposed to high levels of radiation. I take that now to be Daniel's belief on how conciousness travel happens; if you have been exposed to high levels of radiation and then exposed to the island's unique electromagnetic pull, your mind tends to wander... through time.
Now if the aforementioned reasoning is sound and can be applied to every other character on lost, then I think it is a fair enough to assume that Rose is a time traveller as well.
Now lets think about this for a minute. We know that Rose is a cancer survivior. When she met Bernard in the episode "S.O.S" we learned that Rose's cancer had been in remission, and that it later returned. Well if Rose has beaten cancer before, than I am going to presume that at some point, Rose has been through chemo-therapy, which as we all know, involves high levels of radiation.
I think that we have seen Rose conciousness traveling as early as the pilot episode. She was the only one who identified with the smoke monster's very unique sound, which she thought sounded "awfully" familiar. She also seemed to have an eerie confidence that her husband was alive.
I can point out plenty of other incidents in which it seems like Rose knows more than she ought to. For example, although this may be a stretch, I believe that we were seeing a future Rose in the scene in which she comforted Charlie after his unfortunate baby-stealing dream. She told him that "Nobody blames you." I think she was actually refering to something Charlie would do in the future; entering the code in the Looking Glass, an action that directly led to the rescue of the Oceanic Six, which led to Ben turning the FDW, which in turn led to the time jumps and consequent death(s)via brain aneurysms.
I said it was a stretch. But allow me to point out a few other more simple reasons why I believe there is more to Rose than meets the eye.
- Rose is one of two people on the Island that we know has been healed of a natural affliction, the other being the very "special" John Locke.
- Unlike nearly every other Lostie, we know almost nothing about Rose's life prior to meeting Bernard. I believe that Rose may have been born on Island and much like Miles, Charlotte, and Daniel Faraday, she was forced to leave at a very young age, only to be drawn back later in life.
- Rose may have even been resurrected from the dead, in the pilot episode. If you recall, Rose's heart had stopped after the crash and Jack was forced to use a pen to create a secondary airway. Again, this makes her just as special as John Locke, who I believe will be resurrected from the dead right after a plane crash very soon.
- Since time travel has been officially recognized on the show, Rose has been unaccounted for. Since the time flashes have began both Rose and Bernard have been m.i.a and I believe that the reason for this is because if Rose was on screen for the flashes, we would have seen her start to get nosebleeds. This would prove that Rose had been to the island before, something that Darlton would surely intend to reserve as a twist for later in the series.
This is all I'm going to post on Rose for now, but expect more from me on her soon. I have plenty more to say about her, including a theory that Rose may even have a familial connection with a character or two that we have seen before.
Please, lemme know what you guys think. Theory by daKlenke
