I have been reading many theories and just thought that I'd put together the bits and pieces that made the most sense to date with my own twist but I might be wrong and will appreciate your feedback.
I think that the island is a UFO that crashed on earth in the Mediterranean sea by Egypt around 3200BC date to which the first hieroglyphic inscriptions appeared on pottery. The UFO had the ability to generate through its magnetic properties a giant virtual reality resembling an island on earth. We could assume that the ship's navigation system got damaged beyond repair but the reactors enabling travel at near speed were still repairable. Here Einstein's theory of relativity applies with "speed of light" which would explain the future time distillations on the island: if the ship was to approach earth at 100% of the speed of light then your time slows more and more until it is infinitely slowed down. The crew of the ship after successfully making it look like an island decided that the next step was to find if humans in the country nearby "Egypt" would have the technology to help repair the ship. Lead by Richard Alpert, an alien who took human form, a group goes to Egypt but! yet to realize that the civilization is too primitive. Richard then decides to bring a few Egyptians that were sick and injured to cure them on the island. The Egyptian decide to the settle in on the island while Richard and his group teach them some of the secrets like the healing properties, the capacity to travel at the speed of light etc. The Egyptians to thank Richard's group, started building a temple, a statue in the honor of Richard, placed hieroglyphics to document their findings etc. Centuries go by, the navigation system of the island is still broken but the the speed of light reactors got repaired allowing the island to move in time/space with uncontrolled movements - but Richard figured it would be better that way to protect the island from being found by evil forces.
We know what happened next; Hanso found the Island in the 19th century - Enzo Valenzetti wrote his equation, the pendulum was invented and the Dharma initiative was able to pinpoint that strange place on earth which created a flux of intense magnetism. It would explain why Richard never aged, why the island can move through time/space etc. Unfortunately the Dharma initiative exploited the technology of the space ship and the oceanic 6 changed the course of destiny. The space ship is now at risk of exploding and destroying earth. My theory does not explain who Jacob is, the smoke monster, why Richard needs a human leader and much more.
