After The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham I now believe that I know what's happening with Ben, Eloise Hawking and Penny Widmore.
Here goes...
As many have speculated, Eloise Hawking and Charles Widmore are Penny's parents.
As we found in TLADOJB, Ben didn't know about Ellie until Locke told him - after which he killed Locke.
I believe that Eloise knew that Ben wanted to kill Penny - somehow - and that she agreed to help Ben get back to the island on the condition that he wouldn't kill Penny.
Ben wanted to take Locke's dead body back to the island - but he didn't expect him to be resurrected... maybe he wanted to prove to Jacob that he'd killed him?
Ellie foiled that plan - something to do with Jack putting Christian's shoes on him... the island then resurrected John...
As soon as Ellie had revealed the way back to the island, she became useless to Ben... further, she became a liability - if Ben went back to the island, what would stop her from finding where the island was going to be again and tell Widmore? So Ben killed her... and that was the reason he was bloodied at the end of 316.
Possible flaws with this theory:-
- if I were Widmore, I probably wouldn't tell my ex that someone from the island had threatened to kill our daughter.. I just can't imagine how this would come up?
- Ben looked seriously beat up at the marina... I can't imagine that Hawking could've done that.
- How could Ellie know that putting the shoes on Locke would help resurrect him? (this part of the theory is my least favourite) Theory by bob
