How on earth can Ben have a plan for almost every single problem that was arising on the Island and off it too? How does he always know what to do, what to say and where to go? Why Locke and Shannon saw Walt back in season one and two? And generally, where all those people, who are not supposed to be around, suddenly appear out of nowhere? (Christian Sheppard, Ben’s mom, Harper)
My theory is very simple, maybe a bit too simple for LOST, but it can answer the above questions and some more. Well, what if those “hallucinations”( the people who shouldn’t be there) are actually time travelling? Take Christian Sheppard for example, he has could have been to the island, moved to the future to see what was going to happen, then moved to the time of the Oceanic 815 crash, he led Jack to the caves with water, he visited his grandson, he told Locke what has to be done... Simply because he knew what was supposed to happen and gave it “a little push”. Obviously he died in his present, in 2004, but before that he had already done everything in the future.
Same goes to Walt, who, I guess, will probably be back on the Island, travelling to the past to warn Locke not to open the hatch and tell Shannon that “they are coming”. However, the famous rules apply to Walt, thus making him unable to change anything and save anyone. The hatch gets opened and Shannon dies. Later on Walt helps wounded Locke to get out of the hole full of skeletons, telling him that he has a lot to do. How does Walt know that? Simply because he is from the future.
This theory also explains why Ben is always so calm. When he gets caught by Russo and taken to the Swan station. He knew exactly what was going to happen and was just playing along, when people on the freighter come, Ben knows that they are planning to kill everyone, he sends Michael there as “his men”, knowing that Michael has to die on the freighter. Otherwise, why bother with recruiting Michael, when there are plenty of Others, who would willingly and with no hesitation would do the job? Of course later, Keamy somehow breaks the rules and kills Alex... And Ben snaps... This was not supposed to happen, what to do next? He goes into the hidden room and calls the Smokey, or does he? The present changed, that means that the future changed too, so logically, Ben’s next move should be going to the future and seeing exactly what to do next.
As for some smaller mysteries that can be explained by the theory... well... Remember the horse that saved Kate from marshal in season 1 and the horse Kate and Sawyer saw in the jungle outside the hatch? This is probably the same horse, but someone, I’m guessing Kate, send it to the past, straight after the car crash in order for her-past-self to escape that time as she was supposed to be caught later on to be on the Oceanic 815. Or how did Ben communicate with the Others, while being held in captivity by Locke? Same old time travel... And finally, why Christian Sheppard’s coffin was empty? My best guess is that, someone, probably Jack himself, knew that he was supposed to find it this way, that’s why Christian’s body was moved from there and buried elsewhere.
I know that this still doesn’t explain where whispers come from, or even how we can see the people who were unrelated to the Island and are now dead, Charlie for example, or Anna-Lucia... But at least it explains some of the Island mysteries. I’d be grateful to hear some comment. Theory by cl@ssic
