Justin's Theory
okay, let's follow Faraday's thinking. Time is a stream, and you cannot create new streams. Let's say something huge happens that causes that stream to turn in on itself. Thus effectively ending the stream. The End of the World.
Now let's say the world is caught in that loop right now. Has in fact been caught in this loop for quite some time.
Let's say Jacob, Mrs. Hawking, Abaddon, and Richard, and now Ben have been through this time loop many times. Each time coming closer and closer to the answer of how to fix it. Hawking with her calculations, and son, Daniel. Richard with the Others (descendants of the Black Rock Crew, and earlier indigenous people of the Four Toed Statue and Donkey Wheel). This is how they always seem to know excatly what will happen, why things are always perfectly stashed at the perfect places when they need them, and exactly what to say to get people to do certain things.
This group has figured out, through a complex equation, just how to fix this loop. But everything, and I mean everything has to happen an exact way. Certain people have to die, certain people have to come to the island, some to leave it, and those same to return after events have happened in the outside world which they needed to be a part of.
There are rules to this though, and they have to be followed, hence Ben's look of terror when Widmore, another unwitting pawn in the equation of events, breaks one. Fortunately it hasn't seemed to ruin things too much though.
The Island Itself.
Read up on what Kerr Metric Solution means, it is basically the description of a black hole and the unique effects that happen right on the cusp of it. Magnetism, time, etc. are effected. I believe essentially that there is a black hole on the island, not one fully formed, somehow the ancients found a way to contain it, but if unleashed could destroy the world. this gives the island it's unique properties. It also makes it nigh impossible to find it.
basically what must be done is going back in time to when the loop started. but also there will be precautions taken, if in case it doesn't work, meaning a man and a woman will go as far back in time on the island as they can, become Adam and Eve, and father those same indigenous people that later become the Others. I think we will come to realize that Abaddon, Jacob, Mrs. Hawking, Richard, and even Ben's mother are descendants of the original adam and eve too.
Widmore is, or was, part of Dharma, perhaps the financial arm of it, but when it was disbanded he let it go, but now with the island back he wants to use it for his own means. But Alvar wasn't there to use Dharma for what Dharma is said to be used for, and at first he handled it, but Widmore took it from him somehow, and tried to use it for his own ends, thus creating hostility with the Others. Alvar was in fact a grandson or more of one of the men from the Black Rock, and was part of the time equation group. Widmore knows this, but is not part of the group, though he does know the rules.
there are still alot of questions unanswered, like how the time loop will be fixed, why the statue has four toes, what is up with the smoke monster, etc. and why it will be a bittersweet ending, which i think means that they will have to find a way to cut the loop off, meaning they will have never met, thos who loved won't love, but perhaps there is possibility as the stream starts anew (course correction, it's all been course correction, but in order to correct time itself had to be thwarted, without breaking the rules, crazy) that they might retain some memory of it all, as if from a dream.
