My theory starts with the lost continent of Mu. This Idea was taken from a previous poster at darkufo.com. It is stated in wikipedia that Mu is the name of a hypothetical continent that allegedly existed in one of Earth’s Oceans, but (disappeared) at the dawn of human history. The concept was originally proposed by 19th Century traveler and writer Augustus Le Plongeon. He claimed that several ancient civilizations such as Egypt and Mesoamerica were created by several refugees from Mu. This concept was later popularized and expanded by James Churchward. Today, scientists dismiss the concept of Mu as physically impossible, since a continent cannot sink nor be destroyed by any conceivable catastrophe. Le Plungeon later identified this lost land with Atlantis, and turned it into a continent which had supposedly sunk into the Atlantic Ocean.
Le Plongeon’s lost continent was later popularized by James Churchward in a series of books. Churchward claimed that the landmass of Mu was located in the Pacific Ocean, and stretched east-west from the Marianas to Easter Island, and north-south from Hawaii to Mangaia. He claimed that according to the creation myth he read in the Indian tablets, Mu had been lifted above sea level by the expansion of underground volcanic gases. Eventually Mu “was completely obliterated in almost a single night after a series of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, "the broken land fell into that great abyss of fire" and was covered by "fifty millions of square miles of water. Churchward claimed that Mu was the common origin of the great civilizations of Egypt, Greece, Central America, India, Burma and others, including Easter Island, and was in particular the source of ancient megalithic architecture. As evidence for his claims, he pointed to symbols from throughout the world, in which he ! saw common themes of birds, the relation of the Earth and the sky, and especially the Sun.
The Previous darkufo poster said that when typing ALT 4 8 15 16 23 42 into the computer, it makes the symbol for Mu of the Greek Alphabet. Mu (uppercase Μ, lowercase μ; Greek: Μι or Μυ [mi]) is the 12th letter of the Greek alphabet. In the system of Greek numerals it has a value of 40. Mu was derived from the Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol for water which had been simplified by the Phoenicians and named after their word for water. Also, stated above it is the civilation very similar to Atlantis.
I theorize that close to 12,000 years ago the continent of Mu was magnificent with a thriving civilization. The people could build, paint, communicate etc. The people knew the continent has special healing properties and allowed for the people to live long healthy lives. The people of the Mu got too greedy however, similar to Adam and Eve and demanded more from the “Gods”. They wanted to taste the fruits of the island. They wanted to know how the island worked. They discovered the wheel and turned it out of pure curiosity. Turning the wheel cast the curious Mu to Tunusia where Ben and the polar bears also were sent. Now in tunusia, the few Mu came upon the Egyptians and heavily influenced the culture. The Egyptians believed these Mu to be Gods themselves. The continent of Mu was still intact, but moved, not in place, but in time. It moved to 1845AD and appeared suddenly under the Black Rock ship.
Once, again, this is all theory, so bear with me. I believe Magnus Hanso, Whidemore, maybe even Mathew Abaddon were on the Black Rock Slave Ship. The ship was now in the middle of the Jungle and they began to explore. They were soon greeted by the native Mu including native Richard Alpert. At first the black rock crew was friendly and learned a great deal from the natives. Eventually the crew got greedy. Many were killed, both natives and sailors. Whidemore eventually found the wheel to move the island and was cast from the island once again sending the island into a different time period. I believe this time period to be the dharma days 1970’s. Whidemore was cast into Tunusia in the 1970’s as well. He quickly got back on his feet and built up a corporation. He knew the coordinates of the island and sent the DI to do more research. Things didn’t go according to plan and eventually the natives wiped out DI via Ben Linus/the purge.
There are several holes in my theory like maybe Whidemore is actually Hanso, and I really don’t know if Abaddon was ever really on the island (maybe a slave of the black rock) but this would make for a pretty cool backstory.
