I keep wondering how, if the Island is back in time, that the 06, even if they come back to the island will be able to meet up with the losties. I then realized that maybe they won’t.
I believe the shock ending of season 5 will be that the 06 make it back, only to discover that the others aren’t there, because of course they are back in time. The O6 may even discover some of the dead bodies we’ve seen (Dharma grave) may in fact contain Sawyer or Locke’s body for instance.
I think that leaves them with one choice. In order to prevent the cataclysm Locke discussed and perhaps the big disaster that we’ve heard of all along (they may be the same event) they will have to turn the wheel again in order to get back to the past to find them and fix the problem. That wheel turn will be the end of season 6 and the series. Everybody will either die, or be sent back, and one person will have had to make the sacrifice of turning the wheel for the last time. But who?
I also think now, and remember Alpert’s first meeting with Ben. I’m almost convinced that Locke in that instance had sent Alpert to recruit Ben. For what purpose we don’t know, but I think it’s clear that Alpert was not a leader at that point, and with He and Locke trouncing through the woods at the end of season 4, he could have easily wound up looking like a vagabond.
If Locke is the one in the past who got Richard to find the young Ben, then that could easily mean that Locke himself becomes Jacob back then. I don’t know that, but I wouldn’t doubt it. I say this, because Locke is Richard’s sought after, special leader, and perhaps when Richard tested Locke as a youth, he’d never seen anything more than the ghostly apparition of Jacob, and thus wouldn’t have necessarily recognized Locke as he. Thus he had to test him.
I’m still convinced Jack will be the one to save the day, along with Kate, meaning they will have to go into the past at the end of season 6, and thus couldn’t be the one to turn the wheel. I’m nearly convinced they must be Adam & Eve. Whatever he does he will prevent the catastrophe that happens in the past, and I think will be buried ceremoniously, by who I don’t know, and he’ll be Adam. Kate I don’t know, but she’s the leading lady which is why I’d say she’s eve. I think she’ll have to be there in the end. I suppose it could be Juliet. I just don’t see any other power couple and I’m quite sure Adam & Eve are extremely significant.
So again who turns the wheel? Who’s left? Ben, Hurley, Desmond, Sayid? Looking at the cast those are the only other real heavyweight characters. Sun isn’t turning the wheel in other words. Neither is Daniel. It’s just that there are only so many characters with the clout to take on that responsibility.
I will almost say that it is Ben again. Reason being he is the only one who seems to know about it, he’ll be in the present, and if it is him, it will make sense that he’s manipulated all of these events to get what needed to be done, done. And, since this will mean he’s done what needed to be done, it would make since that in the past, Locke knew that he had to have Richard recruit Ben in the woods as a boy. And an older Ben in the past would know that he had to have Richard find Locke as a child in order for an older Locke to go back into the past to find a young Ben. Tell me that isn’t symmetry.
