I'm sorry if this is already been put out there. My wife and I just finished watching the series 4 finale again and were both struck with the idea, that John Locke is Adam from Adam and Eve season 1.
We had come to the conclusion in May that John Locke's destiny is to be part of the Island's consciousness. A similar idea is found in the book, The Messenger by Lois Lowry part of the Giver trilogy, where the character ends up giving his life to save his people and becomes the consciousness of the forest that surrounds his village. Matty has the gift of healing, he is able to make people whole and the forest has become a sort of evil entity not allowing anyone to pass through except Matty who can pass through at certain points. In the end, the forest is overtaking the village and Matty uses his hands to heal the forest and ends up giving his life and he becomes the consciousness of the forest and through it bring complete healing.
So we think that John Locke and his gift of healing are meant to bring the Island back to what it once was, a place of complete healing in contrast to the place where woman die in childbirth, we think that started because of Ben and his negative energy towards childbirth, his mother died in childbirth, possibly Annie died in childbirth and so the reason women die and they can't fix the problem is because of Ben's negative healing and so John is meant to correct that problem. Thus the reason for Jacob saying, Help Me, it is to help him get the Island back to what it was meant to be. That is why the Island has to go back in time to undo what's been done to it by Ben.
That's why we think it's possible that John is Adam. His body has to come back to the Island and it will be in a suit and a casket not unlike Christian Shepard who remained in that suit for a while in visions. We think they will place his body there in the caves and that the two black and white stones, while a tribute to light and darkness, are also a reference to backgammon. The writers have made a strong point in season 4 to remind us of John's love of the game, he is playing Sawyer at one point and he is playing as a child. The reason they find the bodies and they're so decomposed are because John is put there when the Island is in the past and left there only to be found by the survivors, 40 or 50 years in the future.
This doesn't answer who Eve is, possibly someone Locke falls in love with this season, possibly someone that we find out this season has as real a connection to the Island as Locke. Not really sure, but I thought I'd share those thoughts.
