Alright, time for a stretch of the imagination... So far, each season, we are introduced to a new set of players on the stage that is the island.By now, if you have done even basic research into next season, we know that some sort of PHYSICAL time travel has occurred. Now, I do believe that the island itself has moved in time, and also that its not the first time. In dealing with time travel in the Lost universe, we know that electromagnetism has a big part in thing going, lets say, not according to plan. We can also say that the Swan station was most likely a "dam" for electromagnetism not only on the island, but within it as well. And at the end of season 2, that dam blew up with a vengeance, flooding the entire island with its power. It also seems, if only to me, that the "snowglobe" area that was shown in that purple sky event in that episode seems to be about the same size as the area of the island and water! area that disappeared at the end of season 4.
Now, what if the hatch blowing seriously screwed up time's fabric? My theory is this. . .when the island goes back in time, it actually goes from more than one point in time. Bear with me now, it gets crazier. In the season 5 promos, as other people have stated, it appears the losties camp is gone, and the island has physically hit the reset button. Now, the losties camp is gone because they haven't built it yet, but since we see the swan station as well as a newly built others camp, I'm gonna assume that everything else we know about the island exists at this time. Including the Black Rock. Including the Others. Including Richard looking like he just walked off an old ship. And, assuming, also including, another group they call the "hostiles", whom i believe is another group we are going to get introduced to, as they have introduced a new group each season.
Now the point. . .if our castaways were pulled from the future, why not another group pulled from the past? We see the island, an entire island, vanish. Where did it reappear? Underneath a slave ship of course! It would seem to me that the island popping up under the Black Rock is the most logical explanation at this point. Now, that's a good way to get the people on the island that dress like homeless refugees, but what about the people in the fatigues in the season 5 promos? Well, they seemed pretty "hostile" to me in the promo. And they definitely didn't seem like they were dharma, and the uniforms they wear also seem out of place. Possibly pulled out of time to the island as well? That would put a total of 4 (magic number) factions on the island. Wrong place, wrong time, you just got sucked into the vortex.
A few closing thoughts...i don't think everyone got there at the exact same time, but the events happened at once. Remember time is"relative" on the island, and keep an open mind here. The losties got there last, because it seems the DI already had confrontations with the hostiles, and richard spoke with ben when he was pretty young. The others group seemed adept at hiding and probably avoided the Di almost entirely. The "incident", I'm thinking leading to pouring concrete in the Swan hatch, probably made that particular time unstable enough to bring all these times and events together.
Granted its not perfect, but hey all I'm working with here is a bunch of scenes out of context, without much in the way of actual dialogue. And even what we know about the island, and accept as fact, may not be completely true. And because I know someone will say it after reading this I'm gonna clear up the one little side thought i had about the writers introducing new characters/groups. We are given a glimpse of a group one season, and it goes in depth the next (remember when you thought the others lived in that little village on the coast :P) and turn around next season and tell you about them (remember the SECOND island!). While they do that , they introduce another group, aka the DI (at first all we say was an orientation video, and some logos in an octagon). Now, season 5 looks like the season of Dharma, but with the addition (or possible addition) of the Rousseau science team (what were the french doing in the pacific?), and possibly an introduction into Widmore's conn! ection/faction with this all, it seems like a formulaic approach to going back in time story-wise, as we have done EACH AND EVERY SEASON.
Pick this apart heavily, I have more fun listening to what other people have to say than I would have if I had the season 5 script in front of me!
