Just a theory …exploring the temporal complexities of the Island. High Attention span required..
The island vanished before our eyes in the Season 4 finale and the question on everyone mind is where or when…?
Let’s talk about the Island. Most people believe it has completely disappeared from our space and time and went back to Dharma days. We all know that can’t make sense cause that would mean the Dharma day Island and the present day Island overlapped somehow…completely erasing the physical matter of one island yet keeping the inhabitants of the other alive.
Furthermore if the Islands overlapped then the Island would not exist in space and time after the turn of the Donkey wheel. Basically ending any hope the Oceanic Six have for getting back unless Mr. Locke turns the wheel again. We know that Locke got off the island too, for he talked to Kate and Jack so maybe he took care of the the Dharma Island redox situation somehow. Maybe he suffered a similar fate as Ben, got banished when he turned the donkey wheel in order to save everybody and return the Island to the present day. And now he blames Jack for him losing the Island, eventually committing suicide.
Also another would be that the Island is still in our space time continuum. The island is still present, possibly in the same location even though we saw it seemingly disappear( don’t know how thou). The Island was seemingly pushed back to Dharma days yet it exist in our time. ( remember the present day season 4 island exists 3 days before our time yet it still occupied space in present time). You might ask why Dharma times and not other times. Remember the Incident that was mentioned. It is safe to assume that the Incident had something to do with everyone landing in Dharma days, there has to be a reason why the Island landed in this time frame and not another. The island in Dharma times…a side effect, likely temporary just like Desmonds flashes.
Of course this possibility has serious loopholes, like how the Dharma folks go back to their own time? A potential solution is Pierre Chang's video at Comic-con which shows him talking about the Dharma Purge will eventually end up killing him and the other dharma members. Besides if they send the dharma folk back will the regular Swanless island return, or will the Dharma time island remain , Well this is unlikely, yet I don’t see any other reason why Jacob would move the Island even after Keamy and his team were no longer a threat? He moved the Island just so he can send it back in time so he can move i once again? I doubt it…
