Wait for it... Jack and Christian are the same person. I'll let you think about that for a little bit. Here's my theory...
I got this idea when you start seeing the same habits form when Jack returns to the island that his father had before his death and arrival on the island. Christian prior to the crash was a drunk/pill popper/negligent doctor. We have been hinted at that he has been on the island before and you see evidence of this when he shows up in good ol' Jacobs cabin and other random times on the island. Jack post crash becomes the same way, pill popping/negligent doctor/drunkard. He tries to kill himself, similar to Christian, but is unsuccessful, i'll get to that a little later. Also, when we see Jack as a child address Christian after he gets beaten up for trying to stand up for his friend, Christian tells him that he shouldnt attempt to be a hero because he didnt have what it took to cope with failing. Just imagine this scene, but switch Christian for Jack and Jack for AARON. I think at this point in "Jack/Christian's" life he has realized that he is currently in a time loop.! Christian ultimately returns to the island after he has died through suicide, the island "let" him die. If you go with the parallel that Jack and Christian are the same person it shows Jack trying to kill himself but a car crash prevents this. And i think in the new season you will see it work out that Jack kills himself and Aaron will hop on a plane to bury him somewhere or someplace and violia back to the island. Another side point is when Christian tells Jack he shouldn't have married Margo, I think we could very well see this coming up later as Jack making a mistake to marry Kate and will end up going through this same cycle. Now to the island... Here is why i think Jack/Christian are the same entity. Plane crash, pan to Jack with his reaction to waking up on the beach, it almost seems as if he recognizes this unfamiliar land. Also he has a bottle of booze in his pocket, I know we see him getting this on the plane yada yada, but i think its a major clue that he! is Christian because precrash Christian is majorly associated! with al cohol. Now why is Christians coffin empty? because he is alive. By traveling to the island time travels back and we see Christian as his younger self, in the image of Jack. This also goes along with the fact you CANNOT change fate because we see the story of Jack on the island and how he leads and cannot cope with failing. I think the conversation between young jack and christian reiterates the fact, he is drinking, and presumably drunk, when he tells young jack this quote... could it be a drunken rant about how he messed up his life because he tried to be the hero on the island before and now lives a life of impairment, similar to that of jack when he returns.
I'm still in the process of patching this theory up. I also have another idea that is on the same lines as this, but it incorporates Aaron into the equation and he is also a form of Christian/Jack. I don't have enough evidence yet to support this, but if they are it shows the Jack/Aaron/Christian person in the three stages of life (birth, life, death). Please comment and help elaborate.
