"Howdy. Long time lurker, first time theorist. My wife and I were discussing why Charlotte was trying to find her "birthplace" on the island, and how that might relate to Annie. I believe that we will find out that Charlotte could be the daughter of Annie.
First we have to consider what we know about Charlotte. First, she looks a lot like Annie. The red hair, the freckles. Very possibly related. More importantly, she was apparently looking for the place she was born when trying to get to the island. She appears to be in her late 20's, putting her birth around the time of the Dharma Initiative. If this is true, then we have to consider that thus far, the only person born on the island that we know of is Aaron, and this was only possible because he was concieved off the island. So who could have been off the island and come on to have Charlotte?
Well, we know that Ben has a particular obsession with fertility. We also know that Ben has a particular obsession with a young Annie (or at least he did). I am suggesting that perhaps he has invested so much energy in finding out if women can have children on the island because that was what his beloved Annie claimed. We know that the writers have claimed that Annie is an integral part of Ben's story, which would suggest that perhaps she became the love interest that Annie is assumed to be. So how could Ben have finally become so cold that he was able to purge the Dharma Initiative, of which his Annie belonged?
Because of infidelity.
I am suggesting that Annie was pregnant. Ben assumed that she would die, because of course this was a product of their love. But when Charlotte was born a healthy baby, that sent Ben into a jealous insanity, because that could only happen if Charlotte was concieved off the island, and therefore by someone other than he. Annie protested, and claimed that she was his, but unwilling to hear it, he purged the whole Dharma crew.
However, her protests have haunted him ever since. On the one hand, if she was telling the truth, then he murdered (or at least allowed the murder of) the one person he ever truly cared about. This, in an odd way, would be okay because it meant that his true love never betrayed him. However, if his suspicions were correct, well...
Thus, he tries over and over to prove that maybe someone DID remain faithful to him in his life, and is left constantly disappointed.
What do you all think? I realize this is a lot of speculation, but is it possible?
...Thanks for reading.
