At school today we were talking about why Australia doesn't contain any active volcanoes, and it's due to the fact that the continent has moved over time, then my Lost alarm went off.
In Ben's flashback when he and his father joined the Dharma Initiative, we learned about an in-active volcano, now I am absolutely certain the island was moved once before while the DI was in full swing. Obviously for the volcano to be active, it needs to be in a location where there is volcanic activity. I'd also like to mention something that might relate to these ideas, why did Ben somehow appear in the Sahara Desert after moving the island? If you look on the Vile Vortices map, you will see one next to North America.
I think when the island is moved, you appear in one of these locations, a "location with mysterious qualities". Concluding, I think the island was moved once before while the DI were still active and living on the island. I also believe once the island is moved the "mover" will be transported to one of these Vile Vortices. (Yes I know there are some in the middle of the ocean, but spawning in the middle of the desert isn't much better, is it?)
