I’m not at all convinced that Juliet is on the side of the Losties just yet. We’ve been told that she is, and it seems to be an accepted fact, but I don’t recall seeing a good reason why should would be.
Let me start by saying that there could be a number of reasons why should would still be working for The Others even now. She could be working to get them off the Island or to encourage them to fulfill whatever destiny they are supposed to. She could be coercing them to destroy Ben’s enemies. She could even be protecting them, which she’s done for several characters already (Sun and Jack come to mind.)
But in any case, let’s consider what we know about her. She and Ben did have an uneasy relationship, but she’s been loyal to him all along. She helped to get him his surgery, worked overtime on his fertility project, and then a biggie when she participated in deceiving both Kate and Jack. She was a part of seducing Jack into doing the surgery, and pretended to help Kate long enough to use her outside of the Barracks in season 3.
She then had a mysterious change of heart, when her and Jack began to work together towards saving the losties, and at that crucial time, Jack was the only one who trusted her. And that’s important, because nobody else has had any reason to trust her, other than on Jack’s word. So all she had to do was convince him, which was easy enough.
Consider that we still have Jack’s mysterious Appendix operation. I suppose it could have been a coincidence, but nobody had become sick on the island until then, and I believe there’s some chance that his condition could have easily been induced by Juliet. Saving him made her look heroic and afterwards everybody began to trust her and have ever since, which I think may have been her goal all along.
Now I’m not saying she’s evil, and again I think she may have been helping them to accomplish whatever it is they are supposed to, but I just don’t see anywhere in the story where it’s clear that she’s on their side. She could have easily conned her way in, and in fact if that was her goal, she took the exact steps she needed to.
We've already seen been reunite with The Others who we were sure had abandoned him but later learned were part of the overall plan, and I think that's what's going on here as well. The writies have done a great job portaying her as an innosent bystander at this point, but I don't think it's an accident that they've left out a definitive reason why she'd switch teams so suddenly.
