Well back again after a long examination period...and with a final idea about the series!
I've been watching Lost over and over again for 4 years, tv, dvd's, internet, you name it. I have also watched every possible easter egg and have read most of the theories in this site (congrats to the top rated-ones, they were truly impressive!)
Anyway, all this time I've been thinking that the story being unraveled before our eyes, great as it may be, is pretty much a small part of what is really happening, a diversion somewhat.
To me, and i know that there is almost no evidence to support my idea, the whole series is based on a "scam" (a big, big Sawyer-type con) made by the producers. I am not saying that we watch the series for nothing because if that were true, i would personally hunt down the producers and make them eat all the prototype films they shot, no, i am just saying that the title "LOST" has another meaning, other than that we are supposed to believe it has.
Up until season 3 i was convinced that the LOST title reffered to the group that survived the Oceanic 815 (main group, tailes, the O6). Then i took a good look beyond the series story, and by that i mean the deaths that have happened on and off the island.
Why so many did or had to die? Of cource you could easily answer to me that after a plane crash, dealing with wildlife and a group of vicious Ohters who kill or kidnap without a second thought, its a miracle that there are just enough people on the current cast to keep the story going.
But appart from that all the deaths on the island were horrible and many in numbers. Hurley believes that death surrounds him, Charlie died for nothing since the freighter was destroyed, every death and death-implies that have happend in the series so far, has made me believe that, as the old lady told Desmond while his concience was back in 1996 (The Constant) that the universe has a way of cource-correcting.
Think about this: Lock said that its not a coincidence that a group of the losties survived the crash with only superficial injuries.
Desmond also said that he crashed the 815 when he failed to push the button in time. The 815 was never "supposed" to crash on the island. The fact that they did though tells me that the island wanted them there for a reason.
Now universe has the last word here: in the form of Jacob, hallucinations, pollar bears, elecromagnetism, the universe wants ALL the 815 passengers dead, even Locke. Think back to all the times the losties tried to get away from the island or when they are just surviving on it: each and every single decision they took has led them from bad to worse. The universe wants Locke to bring the O6 back because (the island) not only doesnt want to be found, it does not want any human presence on it that can possibly unravell its location. An exception may be the Others (Not Ben, just Richard and all the few true habbitats of the isalnd.) Locke finally dies under uknown circumstances(i bet the island told him to commit suicide so he can live in another timeline), having his purpose fullfilled. The O6 will return.
Now the space-time thing. Well i believe that "The bad things that happened on the island after Jack left", were more deaths and they are trully Jack's fault becuase as he was a leader figure that kept everyone organised and safe, in his absence the universe cource corrected much more easily, killing people more efficiently.Jack prevented that fro happening at some rate. (Remember now how Charlie died, everyone has his path), Jack's departure from the island simply resulted to more deaths.
The O6 have to return to the island to correct the mistake they made when they left, (we are talking about major protagonists leaving the action point-island, strong-leader figures, even Hurley, their departure has had to be destructive for all the others who did not leave), the fact that they all have to die on this island so that they can lead a normal life once the universe gets rid off them, when they are all (Losties, tailies, Dharma Intiiative leftovers- Ben,) dead. The O6 must return to another timeline so that they can all take their true paths. In other words the O6 were never supposed to leave, they were supposed to die. And when they return, the isalnd will give them that chance, will push them to their ultimate limits and trhough the mortal danger that the new timeline the island has gone to awaits, they will die.
This series is mainly foccused in death/life mystery. Not science vs faith, not survival, not evil vs good.
And now here comes the title: To me "LOST" means "DOOMED" (which is indeed another meanig of the word "lost"), the fact that this island tests people, kills them in various ways and ultimately makes them look into the barell of the gun so they can see in what they trully believe in has got some good evidence, even from the pilot episodes. The whole cast of Lost will possibly die in different trimelines, on or off the island, but they will all die because they were never "meant" to step foot in that island or they were and that is because their lifes generally sucked. That also applies for the Dharma Initiative and Ben who where not born on the isalnd. And when they (all the cast)indeed die...well lets just say that the universe has a way off.... cource correcting!
The flashbacks that the series so wonderfully presents to us every now and then is the way in which the producers tell us to remember that the 815 passengers had lifes in the mainland, lifes that were not fulfilling at all. The reason the island-universe wants them there is either to die or live to reconsider their lifes and improve them. Dying in the seires has been proved to be a rather realtive term so people can still fix their paths, even from their graves. In the first season Jack sais that it didnt matter where the survivors came from or what they used to be in the mainland, they all died and have gained the right to start a new life. This phrase is totally true to me. They did die, metaphoricaly sure but they all will literally at some point in the series (I repeat that it wont matter where and when the deaths will be as long as they die). The flashbacks are been shot in order for us to see the passengers lifes and were each and every one will pick up from in the fi! nalle. The O6 messed that up though, temporarily that is. They were not supposed to leave or live at all. The island will give them a lesson about the true value of life and then it will do a final timetravel and resume the flight 815 which will land in Los Angeles as planned. All the characters in the series will be on that plane if you ask me. All of those who where not supposed to be there (even Ben).
And they will all have learned the true value of life, resulting in them not messing up their lifes once and after they reach Los Angeles.
This series has a hidden meaning. Behind all the action, spoilers, easter aggs, drama, mystery, agony, suffering we all, cast, characters and fans will learn that life is something that must be valued and taken care of. Really good plot choice indeed. A group of survivors that has to deal with powers beyond thier control, fighting to restore their ruined past, present and future lifes. It's like an exotic, modern Odessy. The ending will makes you miss the journey and the journey will make you miss the ending, you will all remember my words when we will reach the finalle of season 6. This is by far the best series ever to have reached the Tv screens.
Thanks 4 reading me, hope i didn't fill your head with useless predictions but i'm sure that some of all this is already in your heads too!
