So my fiancée and I were watching Ep13 of Season 1 (we are also rewatching the show due to the agony of waiting until January; and yes, I'll probably play the crappy game too), and, SHOCKER, I noticed something compelling.
To remind, Ep13 is the one where Locke drugs Boone with some weird goop and leaves him, tied, in the jungle. Boone begins to hear the screams of his sister, Shannon, and after some painful struggling, he is able to reach the knife Locke left him, free himself, and run to Shannon's rescue.
He and Shannon are chased by the smoke monster, escape, and when Boone tells Shannon about the hatch, the smoke monster kills her.
Now, when Boone said he wanted to tell Shannon about the hatch, Locke asked him if he was prepared for the ramifications of telling her. Boone said yes, Locke whacked him on the head, bound him, drugged him, etc.
So here's the scoop: Locke induced time travel for Boon via that strange goo he put on his head wound (the one that Locke caused by whackin him).
Let's say it was some psychotropic drug that Locke knew how to made, which makes me ask the question: what would a psychotropic drug be like on the island?
I believe that Boone traveled forward into a possible timeline (much like we saw Desmond do later with his variational visions of Charlie's death), and in that timeline he saw that if he told Shannon about the hatch then the island would course correct with the smoke monster
(who, in other theories, has been suggested to be a physical manifestation of fate), which resulted in her death.
In the vision, when Shanon asked about Locke, Boone said that Locke knows many things about the island.
In the same episode, Locke teaches Walt how to throw a knife. He asks Walt to see the knife striking its mark. When Walt succeeds he says, "I could see it. It seemed so real." Locke replies, "Whose to say it wasn't?"
I believe Walt was also glimpsing a possible future, although, like Boone, he didn't realize it.
Both had time travel experiences induced by Locke.
This theory would definitely tie into the other theories on parallel timelines and such.
Now to go watch the season 3 finale with friends (they haven't seen it yet). Heh.
