Im sure we can all agree that when Ben turned the frozen donkey wheel he ended up in Tunisia, the big question is where or even when did the island go to. Some people have suggested that the island doesnt physically move but has actually moved foward in time, possibly to the time of Ben and Jack meeting at the funeral parlor. This would allow the O6 and on island story lines to run parallel to each other during season 5.
I think there are two equally possible solutions to what has happened.
1.
The island has moved in time but not forward to the point where Jack and Ben meet but to the exact moment in time that Ben appears in Tunisia (October 2005 if I remember correctly).
As pointed out by LostinFlorida in another theory the use of the words "appears..., but in reality...." in the Orchid orientation video would suggest that the island hasnt actually gone anywhere but just moved in time, thus being invisible up until the moment it has shifted forward to. This would mean that for everyone on the island the jump in time would be instantaneous whereas people off the island would have lived through this time period. This can be considered almost identical to the scene from Back to the Future Part 1 where the Doc first shows time travel to Marty. For those of you that cant remember the scene im talking about, Doc has two sychronised watches. One of these he holds and the other is around his dogs (Einstein) neck who is sat inside the time machine and sent one minute into the future. The time machine disappears and then reappears one minute later in EXACTLY the same place as it dissapeared. When the two watches are compared there is a difference of o! ne minute showing the difference in how time was experienced.
This explanation makes sense as otherwise what would be the point of the producers showing Richard appearing to move around in time? What would be the point of all the information they have given us about the Casimir effect and negatively charged matter. What would be the point in showing us time travelling bunnies?
2. The island hasnt moved in time but in location.
If the island has physically moved to another point on the face of the earth and is now hidden the fact that both Ben and Widmore cant find it would be explained. Also this could possibly explain the presence of the Black Rock on the island. The island appeared underneath the Black Rock and thus it is stuck on the island. The fact that Ben said that moving the island is dangerous and unpredictable would suggest that there is no way of controlling where it was moved to. One of the reasons why this is possible is due to the fact that if the island was moved in time then Ben and Widmore would know where to look and would just have to wait in a boat until the moment the island appears. The island wouldnt remain hidden for very long.
Also this cloud explain the presence of a polar bear on the island if the island had previously been somewhere in the arctic/antarctic circle. If the presence of the Black Rock can be explained by an island suddenly appearing where it was saling then surely the same thing could happen to polar bears that are minding their own business?
There are problems with each of these ideas and im sure many of you are thinking of them just as you read this. Please point them out to me! Personally I hope that neither of these ideas or any of the others I have read are close to what has actually happened. I like to think that the producers have got an ace hidden up their sleaves that we will find out about later rather than sooner. After all, what would Lost be without all the mystery that keeps us guessing?
