what if jacob is jacks grandfather? i had a theory. what if the shepards were the original owners/inhabitants of the island.because all children die in childbirth jacob had to take his wife off the island to give birth to christian but had to go back before he was born only to find dharma all over the island (jacob being the leader of the others)and couldnt get his son back to the island because of dharma.and eventually either joins with or dies and becomes one with the island. time passes christian grows up becomes a doctor and all his mother decided to tell him about his father is that he is a great man.christian dies. and jack has to take his body back to L.A jacob sees this as his opportunity and sets events in motion to have the plane crash(explaining why christian shepards body was gone and how jack ends up in the middle of a unbroken circle of trees(where as everyone else either lands in the sand or the wa! ter) and also why jack feels so lost and disconnected after leaving the island(the place that he is destined to be.
the island is protected and watched over by three separate entities.
the first is jacob:the good entity that watches over/protects the inhabitants of the island.
the second is richard:is a neutral entity he will help to a point but he doesnt take a side,he is interested in protecting the island but by allowing peace with the inhabitants
and the third is a entity that took on the appearance of vincent:the evil entity concerned in only the island and trying to rid the island of people.
i believe jack is destined to lead the island or at least be part of it. most of his decisions based on logic have been wrong.but when he does things on faith he is almost always right.
so im thinking jacob wants jack to be the leader but he simply wasnt ready at the time so he chose the person who had the most belief (locke) until jack starts to believe. thats why even after tons and tons of opportunities to be killed he lives.
examples:::in the pilot jack is right next to the pilot but it takes the pilot. later jack and kate are being chased by the smoke monster jack falls but yells for her to keep going. the smoke monster bypasses him all together and goes after kate.
so im thinking that now jack is starting to believe and is ready to return to the island,thats why he was so wrecked by leaving the island and saw his father. he realised his error and NEEDS to return.
and look at michael he wasnt allowed to die at all until he finally froze the battery buying them time.and it wasnt someone michael knew who came to him it was JACKS father telling him he can go now. so michael whole purpose was to let the oceanic 6 get off the island. and the only thing that really changed for them off the island was.

and C.jack is begining to BELIEVE all throughout the show he was a man of science until he left the island and was tortured by his decisions and the appearances of his father.
