I had an idea that there are different era's of people who come to the island and who are important to it. I believe that at this point with all of the discussion of chosen ones, that the various important people can be attributed to the events that have taken place over the long history of the island. The major events and/or arrivals in order of age are,,
1. Crator Impact
2. Ancient Culture (Adam & Eve, 4-toed Statue)
3. Black Rock
4. Dharma Initiative
5. Science Crew (Rousseau's group)
6. 815
It's my belief that each of these events has produced a chosen one, and in some cases a group of important people who have a specific destiny with the island. I can't pretend to guess why each of these groups were important, but they were used by the island to either move it or otherwise control the events the events taking place there. I'll do my best to summarize those who I believe became important and why to coincide with the events above.
1. Crator Impact (Jacob either arrives along with whatever crashed, or is an individual who becomes controlled by some sort of consciousness that the impact brings. However he came to be, he is the essence of the Island's power which was derived from this impact, and so he attempts to control all that happens. The impact itself may have been responsible for the fluxuations in time/space as well. Regardless I'm of the believe that as old as a crator like this would be, it may in fact be responsible for creating human life on Earth, or a segment of it. This would account for the healing nature of the island, the existance of an ancient culture, and if it merely added a segment to humanity, it might explain the existance of "special people" who seem to have a destiny with the island.)
2. Ancient Culture - As life evolved on the island, an ancient culture arose and Richard Alpert became it's most notable representative. He was the right hand man of Jacob, charged with acquiring those who would help to protect the island and guide it in a good direction. He was never given the role of ruling the island however, but he accepted that, and serves the island blindly.
3. Black Rock - The Black Rock is chosen and crashes on the island. The eldest Hanso is the chosen one, but his notes on the powers of the island are later abused, and another on the ship, Abaddon, is charged with protecting the island instead, and due to the compromise in the security and secrecy of the island is responsible for moving it for the first time. He leaves the island and works to protect it from the outside.
4. Dharma - The Initiative is born based on the information in Hanso's notes, and founded by his decendants. They find the Island through unknown means, but the Jacob does not care for this exploitation of it's power and chooses Christian to reclaim and protect the Island, but only after several disasters. Christian succeeds in moving the Island for presumably the second time, but due to the severity of Dharma's actions other special people are choosen to help defend the island from future invadors. Those include Daniel, Charlotte, and Ben. Ben is all to happy to take the lead from Richard whose mission is to select a leader, while Christian suffers in the real world since it was a sacrafice for him to choose to leave.
5. Science Crew - With the knowledge of Hanso still in existance, Charles Widmore discovers the properties of the Island and funds a science expedition to find it. Daniel Rousseau is on that ship, but is not a chosen one and is driven to kill her crew on purpose by Ben who is protecting the island. It is here that Ben becomes aware of Widmore's attempts to claim the Island.
6. 815 - The plane crashes, landing several special people whose goal it will be to secure the Island forever. Locke is the facilitator, the one who will show the others the right path. Walt, and Aaron are also special, however Jack is the key, the real chosen one of this event who will protect the Island into the future, and he has only to realize his role, which is to protect the place where life may likely have been spawned, and which emenates and energy that is crucial to the Earth.
