Ok, so some of this theory have been peiced together from other theories I've read, but some of it (as far as I know) is new.
The Creators of the show have said in an interview that fans missed something crucial in the first episode of Lost, the Pilot episode. The Pilot episode of Lost was in two parts, basically making it a 2 hour premiere. So, I was watching the second part of the two-hour pilot and thought of this theory during an innocent conversation between Locke and Walt about how to play Backgammon. Locke says to him "one side is light, the other is dark," as he holds up one black and one white piece, almost Morpheus-like. He then says to Walt "Let me tell you a secret..." Then, later in the series, two bodies are found that are, from what I remember, Dharma Operatives. They have been there for a while but one has a black stone and a white stone in his pocket.
My theory is this: Locke is made the leader of the Others when Ben "moves the Island", right? so maybe when Ben moved the Island, it didn't just move location, but time as well (I know this has been said before). So the "Hostiles" that the Dharma initiative talk about are actually the others led by Locke. Because Locke knows what needs to be done in the future in order for him to come to the island, he instigates the attack on the Dharma Initiative through Richard, who we see talking to Ben in his flashbacks, yet still seeming the same age as he is in current episodes.
What is my evidence? Well, firstly there is the fact that Richard looks the same age, secondly the white and black stones in the pocket could have been Locke's "calling card" so to speak. Third, we never heard what Locke's secret was that he told Walt, maybe it was that he had been to the island before. Fourth, Locke seems to trust the island completely, which isn't normal....unless the island is basically home to him. Lastly, the fact that Ben had to go through the time machine to move the island and the fact that he said he could never go back is proof that the island moved through time as well.
And, as a side note, maybe plausable maybe not, maybe The older Locke, the one that goes back in time, is Jacob
