Ok this is just a short note theory on something I noticed while bored watching over the old Lost experience. I apologize if this has already been mentioned and this is my 1st theory post so here it goes.
Watching over the Shi Lanka video mostly they mention that the Darhma initiative's main plan of action was to manipulate the Valenzette equation (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) prolong the amount of time there was left before the world ended. Methods they discussed were changing/manipulating the environment. This was supposedly tested on a particular island (which possibly belonged to widmore as he claims that it was originally his). The results were apparently a failure. Maybe in ways they didn't predict. What better way to make the world last forever by making time loop so it does not reach its end... Of course they would have to make it so it would not affect mankind. Thats where I think the whole electromagnitism came into play anyway. The "Others" on the other (lol) hand I can't seem to place into this theory except either
1. Original natives on the island (remember Mittlewerk mentioned natives and a virus in the video) who were experimented on by Dharma.
Or...
2. Previous Dharma workers who went rogue
Myself I think the 1st could be a better explanation. Ageless Richard for example. They could have experimented on people too, maybe to see how they would react to the experiment. This I feel links in with Joop who has lived to 105.
Thats my theory on the whole thing anyway. Again I apologize if this has already been mentioned.
