If you're like me you're well and truly tired of coffin theories.
But then I thought: what if the person inside that coffin ain't dead? Bear with me here. As season 4 has done its best to demonstrate, somehow people who die on the island aren't properly dead. Nor can they commit suicide off the island. We saw that in 'Meet Kevin Johnson' Michael could not kill himself off the island. Mr Friendly tells him - The Island won't let him.
According to the obituary Jack reads in the season 3 finale, the person in the coffin died by committing suicide. So how come the Island let this person commit suicide? huh!?
Now, popular theory suggests the two most likely candidates for that wooden box are Michael or Locke. Both of whom still have work to do and so could not pop their clogs!
Okay, my theory might seem a tad unlikely at this moment in time, but as we've seen in lost, small hints lead to big pay offs. Darlton has bombarded us with stuff about death and what death actually means recently. What a revelation that would be - that the person in that coffin (which has driven us crazy for nearly a year) isn't actually/conventionally dead!? They're are somehow still walking about like Christian/Charlie/Claire/Yemi.
As to how/why this might be the case - don't bloody ask me! Just think about it. If the person in that coffin turns out to be a regular cast member, their identity is gonna dissapoint more poeple than it satisfies. You know this to be true. So how could this problem be avoided?
