I was watching the first season of lost and i came to the scene where Locke shows Walt Backgammon. I started to wonder why the writers would put such an emphasis on this scene especially when Locke said two players "one light one dark" (very emphasised and with a twinkle in his eyes). this really got me thinking and i started to explotre backgammon.
first of all two players play and try to beat the other and control the other side of the board (like widmore and ben fighting,or dharma and the hostiles, losties and the others, jack and locke etc.) the numbers are also explained in the game (except for 15 and 42 i cant find those yet). for more in depth detail go here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backgammon
secondly, i have seen alot of rumors that explain the vortexes that are around the world. there are twelve of them. this corresponds with 12 points on a backgammon board where you have to move to to get to your final destination (like moving to specific vortecies to get to the island)
i just found this interesting and decided to shre. please give feedback and expand the theory
