I don't think they move the island in the normal sense. There is no rudder or prop under the island to steer it. Plus if they did that why wouldn't the ship be able to follow right along with them? They will end up MOVING THE ISLAND IN TIME.
The dead Dr washed up on shore before he died, how does that work?
I think this is a big clue to the fact that the island is actually ahead in time compared to the outside world except that its slowing down. Faraday's experiments show that on island time moves slower than off the island. Could this be a time/course correction of sorts?
If the island was ahead in time (but slowing down a la the 31 minute delay in Faraday's rocket experiment) that might explain how the dead DR washed up on shore before he was killed on the boat. It also means that at some point soon the island time and the outside world time would coincide. Think of it as when the sun and the moon line up together for an eclipse.
If my theory holds then it might help explain the sickness, why it isn't so simple to get on the island and why the coordinates are important. If you aren't "synced" up with the island time then your brain meltsdown in the course correction. The specific coordinates they have to get to and from the island represent the synced up time line of the island. Plus this theory helps set up how the Oceanic 6 get back to the island (if the island (island time) is moved into the future) then the O 6 have to wait for their outside world time line to catch up much the same as how the Freighter folks have their "window" to the island currently.
Could the island being moved forward in time be the "Event" they talked about?
Is it safe to assume the Hatch implosion/explosion was the event that started the island's slow down?
And could entering the numbers into the computer every 108 minutes been the "engine" for keeping the island ahead of the rest of the world time?
What happens if the island slows down past where the rest of the world's time is at?
Plus it explains how future events are known to Ben etc
